Position Overview

The Banquet Manager oversees all aspects of banquet operations, ensuring the successful execution of meetings, weddings, conferences, galas, and special events. This role manages banquet staff, coordinates event logistics, ensures adherence to Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), and delivers exceptional guest experiences within a full-service hotel environment.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Daily Operations

  • Oversee daily banquet operations including setup, service, and breakdown for all events.
  • Lead Banquet Captains, Servers, Bartenders, and Housepersons to ensure flawless execution.
  • Conduct pre-event meetings to review BEO details, timelines, menus, and service expectations.
  • Serve as the primary operational contact for meeting planners and clients during events.
  • Ensure all setups follow hotel standards, safety guidelines, and event diagrams.
  • Event Execution & Guest Satisfaction
  • Monitor service flow and staffing levels to ensure timely and professional delivery of food and beverage service.
  • Resolve guest concerns quickly while delivering polished service recovery.
  • Ensure VIP guests and high-profile events receive tailored, elevated service.
  • Inspect event spaces before guest arrival to ensure cleanliness, readiness, and accuracy.

Staff Supervision & Training

  • Recruit, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate banquet team members.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback and support staff development.
  • Encourage teamwork, communication, and service excellence throughout the department.
  • Manage staffing levels to align with event schedules and labor guidelines.

Communication & Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with Catering & Events, Culinary, Audio-Visual, Engineering, and other hotel teams to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Communicate last-minute changes or special requests to the appropriate departments.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and timely updates to BEOs and internal communication boards.

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Help manage labor costs, operating expenses, and inventory to support financial objectives.
  • Track banquet consumption and support accurate billing and post-event reconciliation.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing inventory for linens, tables, chairs, tabletop supplies, equipment, and décor.
  • Report equipment damage, shortages, or maintenance needs promptly.

Safety, Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of banquet areas, storage rooms, and service corridors.
  • Conduct routine inspections to uphold brand and quality standards.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support banquet and hotel operations.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance as an essential function of the role.
  • What You'll Bring

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Previous banquet leadership experience preferred.
  • Full-service hotel banquet or events experience preferred.
  • Experience managing large-scale meetings, galas, and social events preferred.
  • Training in hospitality management or food and beverage operations preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interpret BEOs, diagrams, and event timelines accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and confidence managing guest concerns.
  • Knowledge of banquet service standards, food safety, and alcohol service regulations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, carry, and move equipment for extended periods.
  • Proficiency with POS systems, banquet management software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Food Safe Serve/Texas Food Handlers Certification
