Job Description
Are you a night owl who likes working with your hands? York Building Products is looking for a Plant Support Specialist – Night Shift who knows their way around heavy equipment, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in keeping a busy operation running strong.
This is a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground laborer position where you’ll help keep the plant safe, clean, maintained, and ready to roll — even after the sun goes down. You’ll inspect equipment, tackle maintenance needs, troubleshoot problems, and jump in wherever you’re needed to keep things moving.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Inspect it. Maintain it. Keep it moving. Perform pre- and post-trip inspections, check fluids, tires, safety components, and handle basic maintenance.
- Keep a close eye on crushers, conveyors, screens, stackers, and other plant equipment.
- Complete daily workplace exams and equipment checklists and spot problems before they become bigger problems.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
- Keep the plant clean, organized, and free of debris — a clean plant is a safe plant.
- Keep spare parts organized and ready to go, including belts, motors, screens, and hardware.
- Document completed work and repairs needed so work orders can be entered and scheduled.
- Work closely with the crew to keep operations safe, productive, and running smoothly.
- Attend weekly maintenance planning meetings.
- Pitch in where needed! Help with troubleshooting, cleanup, equipment work, road repairs, blasting support, excavation, and other quarry operations.
- Follow all YBP safety procedures, PPE requirements, and MSHA regulations.
- Treat customers, vendors, coworkers, and management with professionalism and respect.
- Experience working with or around heavy machinery.
- Mining, quarry, or aggregate experience is a big plus.
- Solid mechanical knowledge and strong troubleshooting skills.
- A sharp eye for equipment problems and a “fix it before it breaks” mindset.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and take safety seriously.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable working independently.
- Knowledge of operating and maintaining light and heavy equipment.
- Comfortable working independently on night shift and staying focused in an active industrial environment.
- A willingness to jump in, get your hands dirty, and do what it takes to get the job done.
You’ll work in an active surface mining and aggregate production environment. That means dust, noise, vibration, heavy equipment, and Mother Nature are all part of the job.
And yes — you’ll be working nights. This is a great opportunity for someone who prefers a nighttime schedule, works well independently, and takes pride in keeping equipment and operations running while the rest of the world is winding down.
If you like working with your hands, solving problems, working around big equipment, and seeing the results of a hard day’s work — you’ll fit right in.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Walk, sit, bend, stoop, climb, and work around heavy equipment.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Safely climb on and off heavy equipment.
- Operate equipment for extended periods.
- Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Work safely and effectively during nighttime and low-light conditions.
Occasional travel to other YBP facilities may be required.
