Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Field Construction Manager to oversee field execution of baggage handling system stabilization and improvement work at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). This field-focused role will independently manage assigned construction workstreams and coordinate contractors, specialty vendors, safety, quality, schedule, testing, commissioning, and closeout. Because work will occur around an operating baggage system, the position requires strong technical judgment and careful planning of shutdowns, access, system interfaces, and operational impacts.

- Provide day-to-day field leadership for baggage handling system stabilization and improvement activities, coordinating contractors, specialty vendors, project teams, and operational stakeholders.
- Plan and monitor field execution around live baggage operations, restricted access, approved shutdown windows, contractor look-ahead schedules, and recovery needs.
- Monitor compliance with project safety, security, quality, inspection, testing, and documentation requirements.
- Manage field issues and documentation, including RFIs, submittals, deficiencies, design clarifications, unforeseen conditions, and proposed changes.
- Coordinate mechanical equipment, controls, electrical, and other system interfaces affecting baggage-system performance.
- Participate in testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational acceptance activities.
- Drive punch-list resolution and coordinate record documents, training requirements, turnover materials, and closeout.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 10+ years of relevant construction management, field engineering, or construction oversight experience on technically complex projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of, or as a supplement to, the education requirement.
- Demonstrated experience independently managing field activities, contractors, specialty vendors, and shutdowns within an active airport or similarly complex operational environment.
- Experience with baggage handling, conveyance, controls, electrical systems, automated material-handling systems, or comparable technical systems.
- Strong knowledge of construction documentation, QA/QC, field change management, schedule coordination, testing/commissioning, and closeout.
- Direct baggage handling system construction, stabilization, or modernization experience preferred.
- Prior SFO or airline project experience preferred.
- Experience with baggage controls, system integration, functional testing, operational acceptance, and coordination with baggage operations preferred.
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license, CCM, PMP, or other relevant professional certification or credential preferred.
- Overtime work may be required occasionally to ensure certain deliverables are completed on time
- Weekend work is rare but occasionally may be necessary
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office environment including the use of stairs.
- Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.
- Must communicate frequently with other departments and employees both verbally and in writing.
- May need to lift and carry up to 15 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or overhead.
