Saddle Stitch Operator
BR Printers is seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Saddle Stitch Operator to join our production team at our Kentucky Airport facility. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring saddle stitching equipment used to produce high-quality books, booklets, catalogs, and other printed materials.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable operating production equipment while maintaining strong quality, productivity, and safety standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Requirements: What You’ll Do
- Set up, operate, and monitor saddle stitching equipment according to job specifications and production schedules.
- Review job tickets, work orders, and production specifications before beginning each job.
- Perform machine setups and changeovers for different product sizes and specifications.
- Load signatures, covers, and other materials into the appropriate machine stations.
- Adjust feeders, stitching heads, trimmers, and other machine components to ensure proper operation.
- Monitor machine performance throughout each production run and make operational adjustments as necessary.
- Inspect finished books and materials for proper page sequence, stitching, trimming, alignment, and overall quality.
- Identify jams, misfeeds, stitching issues, or other production problems and make appropriate operational adjustments.
- Report equipment problems requiring additional assistance to the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform routine machine cleaning and maintain equipment according to established operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate production, quality, waste, and downtime records.
- Minimize waste while meeting established production and quality goals.
- Follow all company safety policies, machine guarding requirements, and PPE procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Work collaboratively with other Bindery and Production team members to meet daily production schedules.
- Assist with other bindery and finishing operations as business needs require.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous manufacturing, machine operating, printing, or bindery experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn specialized production equipment.
- Ability to read job tickets, work orders, and production specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to work overtime based on production needs.
- Previous experience operating saddle stitching equipment.
- Commercial printing, book manufacturing, or bindery experience.
- Experience with Muller Martini or similar saddle stitching equipment.
- Experience with print finishing equipment.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures within a printing or manufacturing environment.
- Experience performing machine setups and changeovers.
- Experience working in a high-volume production facility.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, and repetitive movement.
- Ability to safely work around moving machinery and production equipment.
- Ability to handle printed materials and load machine feeding stations throughout the shift.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, printing materials, and varying temperatures.
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
Four-Shift Schedule StructureAs part of our four-shift operating model, employees may be assigned to one of the following shifts:AM Shifts
- Shift 1B: 5:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
PM Shifts
- Shift 2A: 5:30 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
