Job Description
MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) serving the Dutchess and Ulster County region, is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and clinically skilled Emergency Department Psychiatrist to join our growing behavioral health services team. In this critical role, you will provide rapid psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning for patients presenting evenings, overnight and weekends with behavioral health, substance use, and psychiatric emergencies in a fast-paced emergency department environment. You will also respond as needed to behavioral crises on the hospital’s inpatient psychiatry service.
As an integral member of the emergency care team, you will work alongside emergency physicians, nurses, and behavioral health clinicians to ensure safe, timely, and effective care for some of our community's most vulnerable patients.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct emergency psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments.
- Manage patients experiencing psychiatric, substance use, and behavioral health crises.
- Provide crisis stabilization, medication management, and treatment recommendations, including for inpatient psychiatric behavioral codes.
- Determine appropriate levels of care, including inpatient admission, observation, outpatient treatment, and community-based services.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate safe discharge and continuity of care.
- Support quality improvement, patient safety, and behavioral health initiatives.
- Participate in the development of innovative psychiatric emergency services.
Qualifications:
- MD or DO from an accredited institution.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
- Unrestricted New York State medical license (or eligibility).
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
- Experience in emergency psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, crisis services, or related behavioral health settings preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment, collaboration skills, and commitment to patient-centered care.
