Security Technician in Eureka, Nevada at McEwen Mining Inc

Position Overview:

The Security Technician plays an important role in maintaining the safety and security of the Gold Bar Mine site. This position is responsible for monitoring site access, conducting surveillance, maintaining security systems, and ensuring that only authorized personnel enter the property. Through vigilant monitoring and professional interaction with employees, contractors, and visitors, the Security Technician helps protect company personnel, assets, and infrastructure. This position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to respond effectively to security-related situations in a remote mining environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- When not performing other duties, the security technician will maintain a position within the security office to conduct vehicle searches and safety inspections.
- The security technician must maintain a clean workplace in office and work vehicle.
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter unauthorized activity and protect company personnel, property, and infrastructure.
- Monitor site entry points and ensure that all personnel entering the site have proper authorization.
- Conduct routine patrols and surveillance of designated areas throughout the mine site.
- Monitor CCTV systems, radios, alarms, and other security systems.
- Report and document any suspicious or unauthorized activities.
- Verify and record information for all personnel, contractors, vendors, and visitors entering the site.
- Issue and manage site badges, visitor passes, and temporary access credentials.
- Maintain accurate entry logs and daily security reports.
- Compile daily shift reports and submit them to the Security Supervisor.

● Communication and Incident Reporting ●
- Communicate security updates, alerts, and warnings across the site when necessary.
- Coordinate with site personnel during emergencies or security-related incidents.
- Maintain professional interactions with employees, contractors, and visitors.

● Operational Support ●
- Assist operations teams with Pre-Operational and Post-Operational inspections when required.
- Participate in daily operational meetings and safety briefings.
- Support administrative tasks related to security operations.

● Health, Safety and Compliance ●
- Follow all MSHA regulations, company policies, and HSE standards.
- Maintain compliance with site security procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving workplace safety and reducing risk.
- Identify opportunities to improve site security procedures and systems.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Security Supervisor consistent with the role and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, military, or industrial site security preferred.
- Experience working in mining, industrial, or remote work environments is an asset.
- Knowledge of CCTV systems, access control systems, and security monitoring software preferred.
- Familiarity with MSHA regulations and mining industry safety practices is beneficial.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and security reporting systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

- Work 12 hour rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, and monitoring security systems.
- Ability to walk on uneven ground and active mining areas.
- Frequent climbing of stairs or ladders.
- Moderate to heavy lifting of materials up to 50 lbs.
- Repetitive motions include bending, stooping, and kneeling.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and dust.
- Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respirators when required.
