ABOUT iQ ACADEMY, LOS ANGELES:

iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. We use the K-12, inc. curriculum as the basis for instruction and you will teach via the Engageli platform. Teachers instruct students online daily both synchronously and asynchronously.
HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:
Full time Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Salary Range: $75,829 - $123,687
Annual salary based on holding a Bachelors or Master's Degree and up to 5 years of experience in California.

Job Title: Assistant Principal (Middle School)

Reports To: Department Director and Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Overview:

Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual schoolteachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Principal to support teachers with implementing instructional practices to meet school wide LCAP goals and actions to increase student achievement across the schools.
  • Effectively strengthen, support and work with teachers to ensure that all aspects of student achievement are being supported (pass rates, attendance, etc.).
  • Conduct timely instructional feedback to teachers, to include:
    1. Student engagement in all aspects of the instructional program (daily progress, attendance in live instruction, etc.)
    2. Instructional strategies based on lesson standards and objectives.
  • Conduct informal and formal classroom visits.
  • Participate in teacher evaluation process.
  • Ensure that teachers gain the needed skills to support students who are considered at risk based upon:
    1. Summative CAASPP testing data.
    2. School assessment data (Diagnostic Assessments, Interim Assessments, quiz scores, Progress Trackers, etc.)
    3. Online school course progress
  • Proactively analyze each assigned teacher’s classroom data reports to gain knowledge and a better understanding of student instructional needs.
  • Schedule and conduct data conferences with teachers, individually and in small groups, analyzing school assessment/data reports to identify student grouping and support teachers in data driven instruction.
  • Support teachers in scheduling and maintaining instructional time.
    1. Review instructional schedules.
    2. Ensure the schedules meet school and state requirements.
    3. Review emergency substitute plans
  • Conduct one on one/small group, trainings on items needed for teacher support or student support to ensure student academic achievement.
  • Conduct reviews of student documents (ISMAs, Work Summaries, Report Cards, etc.) to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Conduct parent academic and/or compliancy conferences.
  • Ensure all students receive an enduring connection every 30 days.
  • Facilitate and attend professional developments in person and virtual.

  • Facilitate and attend school functions and events, in person and virtual (Academic events, Back to School events, Open House, promotions/graduations, outings, etc).
  • Provide proactive, first line of support for teachers with non-compliancy concerns, parental issues and concerns.
  • Be an expert on school policy, processes, and procedures to ensure that students are receiving needed academic support.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to ensure student needs are met in all academic areas.
  • Plan and facilitate testing needs across the region.
  • Attend regularly scheduled conference calls and in person meetings.
  • Respond as soon as possible but no later than 24 hours to inquiries via phone and/or e-mail during regular work week.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience/Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-directed but comfortable working as part of a team
  • Proficient with student record processes
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with IQLA (internal applicants only)

Certificates and Licenses:

Must hold a valid Clear California Teaching Credential

California English Learner Authorization

Masters Degree Preferred

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; and experience using a student information system and/or other type of database software. Experience moderating web meetings (Blackboard Collaborate, Webinar, etc.) for small and large groups.

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and participate in school activities and orientations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

A summer contract is also available for this position.
