Job Description
Manager, Biomanufacturing Laboratory - South Campus
- Lead day-to-day facility operations of the Biomanufacturing Laboratory at the South and Generation Park Campuses, including preparation, setup, and coordination of training spaces to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of hands-on biomanufacturing education and workforce training.
- Oversee procurement, acquisition, installation, setup, routine/preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and vendor coordination for all laboratory and pilot-scale manufacturing equipment and instrumentation to maintain optimal functionality and minimize downtime.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and enforce a comprehensive laboratory safety program, including biosafety, chemical hygiene, hazardous materials/waste management, PPE protocols, training, and compliance with SJC, OSHA, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the full-time laboratory technician and part-time laboratory assistants, providing guidance on facility operations, equipment use, safety practices, and professional development.
- Manage comprehensive inventory and procurement of reagents, consumables, single-use systems, PPE, and laboratory supplies while monitoring related budgets and expenditures to support uninterrupted training activities and program sustainability
- Serve as the primary liaison with college facilities, safety officials, vendors, and external partners to coordinate renovations, maintenance requests, work orders, inspections, and facility compliance requirements
- Develop, implement, and maintain GMP/GDP-compliant documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), equipment logs, maintenance records, safety checklists, and training materials.
- Proactively suggest and implement improvements to current training practice with training team members
- Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to the strategic goals of the Center for Biotechnology.
- Excellent knowledge of biopharmaceutical production operations and equipment
- Intermediate to advanced level skills in MS 365 applications including Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, Planner, and others.

- Associate degree in applicable field
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience necessary to perform the essential duties of the role may be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field with specific knowledge and skills related to bioprocessing
- 3-5 years of hands-on laboratory or facility management experience, including oversight of daily lab operations, equipment acquisition/setup/installation, preventive maintenance and calibration programs, troubleshooting, vendor coordination, inventory control, and coordination of facility needs within a production, academic or research environment.
- 2-3 years of supervisory experience
- Previous experience within biopharmaceutical, biomanufacturing, bioprocessing or similar operations and associated equipment
- Proven technical aptitude and a proactive mindset with the ability to quickly learn new equipment, processes, and procedures as needed to support evolving laboratory and training requirements.
- Proficiency with MS 365 applications including Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, Planner, and others.
- Significant industry experience in biomanufacturing, bioprocessing, or a related laboratory/production environment, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Proven ability to successfully acquire, set up, and maintain large-scale or specialized laboratory and pilot-scale equipment.
- Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., Good Manufacturing Practice/Good Distribution Practice (GMP/GDP)) and supporting workforce training or educational programs.
Salary Grade: 119
