Heavy Equipment Operator
Poplarville, MS | Manufacturing Facility | Full-Time | Competitive Hourly Wage
About DSCDSC Dredge is a world leader in portable cutter suction dredges engineering and manufacturing equipment for aggregate mining and sand & gravel production, environmental remediation, coastal restoration, navigational maintenance, and marine construction across the U.S. and in more than 50 countries worldwide. We operate from our headquarters in Reserve, Louisiana and our manufacturing facility in Poplarville, Mississippi.
The RoleWe are looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely and precisely run the cranes, forklifts, and tele-handlers that lift, move, and position machinery, equipment, and dredge components throughout our manufacturing yard. Working under the direction of the Millwright Foreman, you will play a hands-on role in getting every build from individual components to complete dredge platforms into place for fabrication, assembly, and shipment.
What You Will Do- Operate cranes, forklifts, tele-handlers, and other heavy equipment to lift, position, and place machinery, equipment, and large components throughout the manufacturing yard
- Manipulate crane and hoist controls including levers and pedals that rotate the crane and raise or lower the boom and load-line according to written, verbal, or signal instructions
- Bolt boom sections together to extend or reconfigure the boom for pile driving or high-lifting operations
- Operate equipment according to signals from a helper or spotter, working within precise limits and standards of accuracy
- Start and stop equipment engines and follow all operating directions and procedures carefully
- Maintain a preventative maintenance program on all heavy equipment and perform repairs as needed
- Inspect equipment daily for safety issues, identify malfunctioning parts, and determine the appropriate solution
- Complete job tickets, service quality summaries, and other required paperwork
- Ensure all necessary safety measures are followed during equipment operation
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED
- One to three years of experience operating similar cranes or heavy equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver’s license to operate a company vehicle and equipment
- Ability to read and follow written instructions, correspondence, and memos, and to respond to routine inquiries from customers or regulatory agencies
- Basic mathematical skills — addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and work through standardized situations with minimal supervision
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Willingness to cross-train and take on other tasks or positions across the Company as needed
- Willingness to travel as required — air, water, or land-based, depending on the project (less than 5% of the role.)
- Ability to pass pre-employment testing (drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision test) and random drug and alcohol testing
- Real, visible impact — the equipment you operate moves the actual components that become dredges shipped to customers in more than 50 countries
- One of only a handful of U.S. dredge manufacturers ---- giving you specialized, in-demand equipment-operating experience you won’t build at a typical manufacturing or industrial site.
- A business at record production levels — sustained demand means steady, reliable work and long-term job stability
- Safety-first culture — well-maintained equipment, clear procedures, and a team that backs you up on the yard
- Room to grow — willingness to cross-train opens doors to other roles across manufacturing and operations
- A company small enough that your work is noticed and your contributions matter
- Competitive hourly wage, commensurate with experience
- Health, dental, vision insurance & short-term disability
- Company-paid basic life insurance & long-term disability
- 401k retirement plan with company match
- Paid time off and company holidays
This is a physically active, primarily outdoor role. You will regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places, and be exposed to outdoor weather, loud noise, and vibration typical of heavy equipment and large earth-moving operations — with regular lifting and moving of up to 50 pounds. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color vision are all required to operate safely. It’s hands-on, safety-critical work — and precision matters as much as strength.
Our ValuesQuality. Innovation. Service. Commitment. Customization.
These are the commitments that guide how we work and how we serve our customers — delivering on-spec, on time, with industry leading engineering precision for which DSC is known.
