Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Advanced Practice Provider (APP) (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join our team in Auburn, NY, serving a rural community in the Finger Lakes region. This role provides the opportunity to deliver comprehensive, full-scope emergency care, including patient evaluation, diagnostics, procedures, care coordination, and patient education. Schedule:

  • Shifts available: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM or 2:00 PM – 2:00 AM, 7 days per week.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Systematically evaluate patients by obtaining comprehensive health histories, performing physical examinations, and identifying relevant clinical signs and symptoms.
  • Perform, document, and dictate patient assessments, procedures, and progress notes accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Develop differential diagnoses and formulate individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings.
  • Write orders, initiate appropriate diagnostic testing, and implement treatment plans within the APP scope of practice.
  • Present pertinent clinical information and recommendations to attending physicians and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans based on patient response, diagnostic results, and interdisciplinary input.
  • Perform emergency department procedures, including laceration repair, wound care, incision and drainage, splinting of fractures and minor extremity injuries, and other procedures within credentialed privileges.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies, critical changes in patient condition, and complications requiring escalation of care.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, rehabilitation, and discharge instructions.
  • Coordinate patient care, including consultations, admissions, transfers, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Participate in patient care conferences, rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of disease processes, pathophysiology, evidence-based practice, and emerging trends in emergency medicine.
  • Deliver culturally competent, age-appropriate care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
  • Utilize hospital resources, community services, and information technology to support optimal patient outcomes.
  • Foster effective communication with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, consultants, and ancillary departments.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards of practice.

Qualifications:

  • Current New York State licensure (or eligibility) as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • National board certification appropriate to the profession.
  • Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.

Compensation: $70.00–$85.00 per hour, based on experience (DOE).
