Assistant Teacher Job Description

Haygood Child Development Center is a licensed year-round childcare center located in Midtown, Atlanta. The Full-Time Childcare Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children. This role helps implement daily classroom activities, encourages children's social and emotional development, and ensures the health, safety, and well-being of every child.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively participate in classroom activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate educational activities.
  • Supervise children during classroom learning, outdoor play, meals, and nap times.
  • Foster a positive, caring, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Help children develop social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom.
  • Follow all licensing regulations, health, and safety procedures.
  • Assist with diapering, toileting, feeding, and other personal care needs as required.
  • Observe and report children's progress, behavior, and any concerns to the Lead Teacher.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, caregivers, and staff.
  • Prepare classroom materials and learning centers.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Compensation: $17.50 -$19.50 per hour (based on educational experience)

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time (40 hours per week)
  • Monday through Frida
  • Occasional staff meetings or training outside regular hours may be required( twice a year)

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Early Childhood Education coursework preferred.
  • Previous experience working with young children is preferred.
  • Ability to pass required background check
