Job Description

Sr. QA Automation Test Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. QA Automation Test Engineer based in United States.

This is a senior quality engineering role focused on validating complex autonomous vehicle fleet operations technology through scalable, system-level automation. You will own the architecture and evolution of backend and frontend automation frameworks, with a strong emphasis on APIs, services, and distributed systems. Your work will establish reliable quality gates within CI/CD pipelines and strengthen end-to-end validation across fleet management, dispatching, and monitoring platforms. You will collaborate closely with software engineers and product teams to identify coverage gaps, investigate defects, and continuously improve testing strategies. The role also includes mentoring another automation engineer and driving technical best practices across the function. It offers the opportunity to work on safety-focused, cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Own the architecture, development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of scalable backend and frontend test automation frameworks, with a primary focus on backend API and service-level validation.
  • Design and execute comprehensive automated test suites covering backend services, REST/gRPC APIs, data pipelines, integrations, and frontend UI workflows across the fleet operations platform.
  • Develop automation solutions primarily using Python and Go for backend testing and JavaScript for frontend validation, while adopting new tools and frameworks as the technology stack evolves.
  • Lead integration testing for third-party APIs and internal services, ensuring reliable end-to-end data flows across fleet management, dispatching, monitoring, and related systems.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of test failures and system defects, collaborating across engineering teams to identify issues and drive them through resolution.
  • Partner with software engineers and product teams to define test strategies, identify coverage gaps, and establish scalable automated quality gates within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Lead and mentor another automation test engineer through technical guidance, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and professional development support.
  • Drive continuous improvement across the automation testing function through stronger processes, documentation, test plans, operational frameworks, and engineering best practices.
  • Adapt automation strategies to accommodate evolving platform requirements, architectural changes, and technology-stack updates, while supporting after-hours validation or release activities when required.
  • Occasionally travel domestically to support on-site testing or operational deployments and perform other responsibilities as needed.
Requirements:
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Bring 5+ years of experience in software QA or test automation, with strong hands-on expertise in backend and API testing.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in Python and Go for backend automation and JavaScript for frontend automation, along with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and frameworks.
  • Have experience designing and building automation frameworks from the ground up for complex, distributed systems and production-grade software environments.
  • Be experienced with REST and/or gRPC API testing, service integration validation, and data pipeline verification.
  • Have hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated quality gates into software delivery and release processes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead technical initiatives independently, mentor engineers, take ownership of outcomes, and collaborate effectively across engineering and product teams.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly report technical findings and drive alignment among cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Bring strong initiative, accountability, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Be comfortable with a flexible schedule and supporting late meetings, night shifts, urgent validation activities, or release requirements when operational needs arise.
  • Experience with autonomous vehicle fleet monitoring, dispatching, fleet management, ride-hail or transportation platform integrations, cloud telemetry, or AV data pipelines is preferred.
  • Experience working within cross-site or global engineering organizations and a Master’s degree in a relevant technical field are additional advantages.
Benefits:
  • Annual base salary range of $125,000–$167,000 USD, with actual compensation based on factors including skills, experience, expertise, certifications, role location, and business needs.
  • Potential eligibility for additional compensation, including bonus or company equity, depending on the role and applicable compensation plan.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • 401(k) with company matching and health savings account options.
  • Life insurance and pet insurance.
  • Flexible Paid Time Off and additional company benefits.
  • Opportunity to take up to two days of paid time off to volunteer with a 501(c) organization.
  • Opportunity to work on advanced autonomous vehicle technology spanning robotics, software engineering, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Exposure to complex distributed systems, fleet operations, automation architecture, CI/CD, and safety-focused validation.
  • A collaborative and inclusive engineering environment with opportunities to contribute to meaningful transportation technology and continuous innovation.
  • Fully remote opportunity, with occasional domestic travel required for on-site testing or operational deployments.
