Description:

Chief Compliance Officer

Recovery Centers of Montana (RCM) is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Chief Compliance Officer to lead and strengthen the organization’s compliance program across behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment services. This leadership role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring systems that support compliance with federal and state laws, payer requirements, accreditation standards, and internal policies across multiple levels of care.

The Chief Compliance Officer serves as an independent and objective leader who helps the organization identify risk, improve accountability, and maintain high standards of ethical and regulatory practice. This position works closely with executive leadership, program leadership, billing, clinical teams, and support departments to promote a culture of compliance, operational integrity, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, administration, and ongoing evaluation of the organization’s compliance program.
  • Develop and maintain compliance-related policies, procedures, education, internal monitoring, auditing, and corrective action processes.
  • Monitor changes in federal and state laws, payer guidance, accreditation standards, and enforcement priorities to assess organizational impact and support timely adaptation.
  • Provide oversight and guidance related to clinical documentation, billing compliance, scope-of-practice issues, licensing, credentialing, and regulatory expectations affecting behavioral health services.
  • Lead internal auditing and compliance monitoring activities across residential and outpatient services.
  • Review clinical documentation, billing practices, operational processes, and other areas of regulatory risk, adjusting audit focus and frequency based on program needs, prior findings, and emerging concerns.
  • Summarize audit findings, identify patterns or areas of vulnerability, and develop corrective action plans in partnership with program leadership.
  • Follow up on corrective actions and communicate significant findings, ongoing risk areas, and compliance improvement efforts to executive leadership.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • At least two years of management or leadership experience in behavioral health, healthcare, compliance, or a related setting.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered for candidates with strong regulatory, auditing, or clinical leadership backgrounds.
  • Experience in healthcare compliance, Medicaid or payer oversight, internal auditing, program integrity, fraud, waste, and abuse prevention, or regulatory review strongly preferred.
  • Prior OIG, state audit, or investigative experience preferred.
  • Active Montana behavioral health license, including LAC, preferred.

Compensation and Schedule
This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, with opportunities for incremental increases based on performance and scheduled review milestones. The role may also be eligible for retention or performance-based bonuses at key service anniversaries, contingent upon continued employment and satisfactory performance.

This is a full-time leadership position that may require travel between program locations, schedule flexibility, and occasional work outside standard business hours based on operational needs, audit activity, training requirements, or other time-sensitive compliance matters.
