Are you passionate about serving your community and helping others? We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Dispatch Officer to join our team. This role goes beyond traditional enforcement; it is about building positive relationships with the public, promoting fair parking practices, and ensuring our community remains accessible for everyone.

The mission of the Allentown Parking Authority is to operate, monitor, and maintain convenient and accessible parking facilities and on-street parking opportunities within the City of Allentown. The Allentown Parking Authority works to balance the parking needs of residents, employees, business and property owners, and visitors while enforcing parking ordinances and providing appropriate access to parking.

The Dispatch Officer is an Essential Employee who performs a variety of duties to enforce various parking ordinances. This position is responsible for coordinating and dispatching officers to enforce parking regulations, assist with public inquiries, and ensure efficient operations. The Dispatch Officer reports directly to the Manager/Supervisor of the Enforcement Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Radio & Technology Use:

  • Operate a radio at the control point of a radio communication system
  • Receive and relay radio messages
  • Transmits and receives communications essential to official activities in accordance with and applicable Federal Communications Commission regulations and policies
  • Monitor security cameras or other related CCTV equipment as needed
  • Utilize ticket management system with an understanding of parking practices

Internal & External Communication:

  • Respond to public inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy, offering guidance and solutions where possible
  • Relay radio messages to various enforcement officers and or appropriate personnel
  • Request police or EMS response to areas where needed as requested by staff on duty
  • Maintain communication with internal departments to ensure smooth transition of services to the public

Data and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all calls and dispositions
  • Prepare reports of incidents as needed
  • Perform subsidiary clerical work including reviewing reports

All other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Prior experience in customer service, community relations, or law enforcement preferred
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • Employee is an Essential Employee and is required to report to work in all weather conditions
  • Knowledge of Federal Communication Commission rules, regulations and policies preferred

  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Proficient in using technology such as telephone and radio equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

HOURS OF WORK – Monday-Friday, 4:00pm-9:00pm

STARTING PAY RATE - $21.00 PER HOUR
