Job Description

Pacifico Energy develops, finances, builds, and operates energy infrastructure that powers businesses and communities. In the U.S., we are tackling one of the biggest challenges facing AI and large-scale data centers: access to reliable power. Our private grids bring dedicated generation and energy storage directly to customers, helping projects move forward without waiting for traditional utility connections. We draw on Pacifico Energy Group’s experience across the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam, spanning solar, wind, battery storage, and natural gas. Joining Pacifico means helping turn ambitious energy projects into operating infrastructure, with work that connects directly to the people and businesses building the future of AI.

The Mechanical Engineer is the Owner's technical lead for mechanical and balance-of-plant (BOP) scope on our gas-fired power projects. You will review and challenge EPC contractor and OEM engineering, manage mechanical equipment procurement and interfaces, and carry the design through construction, commissioning and handover.

This is an Owner-side role: you protect Pacifico's interests on performance, reliability, cost and schedule, working alongside our Owner's Engineer, the EPC contractor, turbine OEMs and lenders' engineers.

What you get to do:

Engineering and design review

  • Review EPC and OEM deliverables: PFDs, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, equipment datasheets, specifications, plot plans and 3D model reviews.
  • Own mechanical BOP scope: fuel gas conditioning and compression, cooling systems, ORC waste heat recovery, compressed air, fire protection (NFPA 850), water and wastewater, and HVAC.
  • Lead or support plant performance and heat rate evaluations, degradation and ambient-correction analysis.
  • Check designs against codes and standards: ASME B31.1/B31.3, ASME BPVC, API, NFPA, and ERCOT/TCEQ-driven requirements where they touch mechanical scope.
  • Run or participate in HAZOP, constructability and design reviews; track comments to closure.

Procurement and vendor management

  • Write technical specifications and evaluate bids for mechanical equipment (gas compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, fin-fan coolers, tanks, valves, piping).
  • Support gas turbine and long-lead equipment procurement, including technical clarifications, scope splits and interface lists with OEMs.
  • Witness factory acceptance tests (FAT) and expedite vendor data and quality documentation.

Construction, commissioning and handover

  • Provide Owner oversight in the field: mechanical installation, piping, hydrotests, flushing and QA/QC records.
  • Review and approve commissioning procedures; support start-up, performance and reliability testing.
  • Ensure turnover packages, O&M manuals and as-builts are complete before handover to operations.

Commercial and project support

  • Assess EPC change orders, RFIs and technical deviations for cost, schedule and performance impact.
  • Contribute to technical due diligence for new sites and to reporting for investors, lenders and the Independent Engineer.
  • Support early-stage concept and configuration studies for pipeline projects.

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering on thermal power plants (simple cycle, combined cycle or cogeneration), with an EPC contractor, Owner, OEM or Owner's Engineer.
  • Hands-on knowledge of gas turbine auxiliaries and BOP systems: fuel gas, cooling, compressed air, fire protection and water treatment.
  • Working command of ASME B31.1/B31.3 and NFPA 850, and the ability to read and mark up P&IDs, isometrics and vendor drawings.
  • At least one project carried through construction and commissioning in the field.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; able to hold a technical position with contractors and OEMs.
  • Willing to be based in Dallas and travel to Texas sites up to 30–40% during construction peaks.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas, or EIT.
  • Experience with industrial or aeroderivative gas turbines (e.g. Siemens Energy, GE Vernova, Baker Hughes, Ansaldo) and their OEM interfaces.
  • Exposure to waste heat recovery (ORC or HRSG), fuel gas compression, or behind-the-meter / islanded generation.
  • Owner's representative experience on lump-sum or EPC contracts, including change order and claims review.
  • Experience in Texas / ERCOT, or on data center or large industrial power supply projects.
  • Familiarity with tools such as AFT Fathom/Arrow, Thermoflow (GT PRO/PEACE), Navisworks or AVEVA model review.
