You will work closely with cross-functional teams including Legal, Marketing, Analytics, Account Management, and Sales Operations to deliver measurable business outcomes.

The Business Development Director will lead strategic growth initiatives by owning the complete sales cycle and developing high-value retail partnerships. This role requires strong commercial ownership, relationship-building skills, and the ability to translate customer needs into successful business outcomes.
- Own and execute the full sales cycle, from prospecting and discovery through contract negotiation, signature, and implementation handoff.
- Identify, engage, and close new retail partnerships while consistently achieving or exceeding revenue targets and business development goals.
- Build strategic account plans by identifying key stakeholders, decision-makers, buying committees, and partnership opportunities.
- Conduct discovery sessions to understand retailer objectives, challenges, and operational requirements, creating tailored value propositions and ROI models.
- Develop and deliver executive-level presentations, proposals, and partnership strategies for VP and C-level audiences.
- Lead commercial negotiations, including contract terms, revenue structures, placement agreements, service expectations, and other business requirements.
- Drive outbound prospecting activities through multiple channels, including calls, email outreach, professional networks, events, and strategic partnerships.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure successful execution of signed agreements and alignment between customer expectations and operational capabilities.
- Monitor retail market trends, competitive dynamics, and industry developments to identify new opportunities and inform business strategies.
- Maintain accurate pipeline management, forecasting, and reporting through CRM tools, ensuring visibility into sales performance, conversion metrics, and opportunities.
- Partner with analytics teams to evaluate potential locations, develop financial models, and strengthen business cases for prospective partners.
The ideal candidate is an experienced business development professional with a strong track record of selling into retail environments and managing complex enterprise partnerships. You should combine commercial expertise, strategic thinking, negotiation skills, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment.
- 10+ years of experience in business development, enterprise sales, or strategic partnerships, with proven success selling into retail organizations.
- Deep understanding of retail operations, stakeholder structures, and decision-making processes across channels such as grocery, convenience, discount, and specialty retail.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve sales quotas and close significant partnership agreements.
- Experience managing complex contract negotiations, commercial discussions, and agreements through final signature.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills with executive-level stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, operate independently, and thrive in an entrepreneurial and growth-oriented environment.
- Strategic and analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage pipeline activities, sales processes, and long-term opportunities effectively.
- Hands-on experience with sales and analytics tools such as Salesforce, ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Tableau, and Excel.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for key meetings, industry events, and company gatherings.
- Competitive base salary ranging from $130,000 to $150,000 USD, plus commission opportunities and long-term incentives based on individual and company performance.
