Armed Security Officer – Multi-Site Shopping Center Patrol

Employment Type: Part-Time (28 hours per week)
Pay: $20.00 – $22.50 per hour
Schedule: Wednesday through Saturday, afternoon and evening hours. Shifts rotate between both sites during the week. Days and hours are subject to change based on the needs of the shopping centers.

Position Overview

JLSS is seeking a professional, alert, and dependable Armed Security Officer to provide uniformed security at two shopping centers in Prince George's County, one in Fort Washington and one in Hyattsville. Officers will work part-time shifts at both locations, moving between sites during the week as scheduled.

At each site, this is a foot patrol position covering the shopping center's exterior and parking lots. The officer will serve as a visible deterrent, help keep tenants, employees, and customers safe, and respond calmly and appropriately to incidents.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct continuous foot patrols of the shopping center's exterior, storefront walkways, loading and service areas, and parking lots

• Work scheduled shifts at both the Fort Washington and Hyattsville shopping centers

• Learn and follow the post orders, layout, and procedures for each site, and keep the same standards at both locations

• Provide a visible, professional security presence to deter theft, vandalism, loitering, trespassing, and other criminal activity

• Observe and report suspicious persons, vehicles, and activity

• Respond to incidents, disturbances, and calls for assistance from tenants, store staff, and the public

• Enforce property rules and policies in a courteous, professional manner

• Identify and report safety hazards such as lighting outages, damaged property, and slip/trip hazards

• Assist customers and tenants with directions, escorts, and general questions

• Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services when required

• Write clear, accurate, and timely incident reports and daily activity logs

• Maintain situational awareness and de-escalate conflicts whenever possible

• Follow all post orders, company policies, and Maryland laws governing armed security and use of force

Required Qualifications

• Active Maryland Security Guard Certification (Guard Card)

• Active Maryland Wear and Carry Permit

• Must have completed the Maryland Wear and Carry qualification shoot with the same duty weapon you will carry on post

• Must personally own your duty weapon and a Level III retention outside-the-waistband (OWB) duty holster. The firearm must be a reliable, service-grade handgun suitable for armed security duty, such as a Glock 17 or equivalent. The holster must be designed specifically for that firearm and provide Level III retention (required). Equipment is subject to inspection and approval by JLSS before you are posted.

• Must supply and carry reliable, factory-manufactured hollow point duty ammunition from a reputable manufacturer, in the correct caliber for your duty weapon. Reloaded, remanufactured, or range/practice (FMJ) ammunition is not permitted on post.

• Minimum 21 years of age

• High school diploma or GED

• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

• Reliable personal transportation to commute to both Fort Washington and Hyattsville. The two sites are on opposite ends of the county.

• Availability Wednesday through Saturday, afternoons and evenings, and willingness to work at either location on different days of the week

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Professional appearance and demeanor

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in armed security, law enforcement, or military service

• Experience in retail, shopping center, or parking lot patrol

• CPR / First Aid / AED certification

• De-escalation or conflict-management training

• Familiarity with Prince George's County, including the Fort Washington and Hyattsville areas

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods during foot patrol

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow

• Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and physically assist when necessary

• Ability to safely carry and handle a firearm and duty gear for the full shift
