JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Staff Accountant supports the accounting and financial operations of Pinehurst Surgical Clinic (PSC), including general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting, analysis, and audit support. This position ensures financial information is accurate, properly supported, and recorded in accordance with GAAP, PSC policies, and applicable regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, allocations, and adjusting entries and complete assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, research discrepancies, and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Assist with financial statements, management reports, budget-to-actual analysis, forecasts, and financial analysis.
  • Prepare and analyze departmental, specialty, location, and physician financial reports, including revenue and expense allocations, productivity, compensation, and profitability reporting.
  • Provide accounting support for accounts payable, cash receipts, deposits, bank reconciliations, and other transactional functions.
  • Assist with annual operating and capital budgets, financial modeling, and analysis of new programs, equipment, staffing, service lines, and other initiatives.
  • Support financial statement audits, tax preparation, regulatory reporting, and other compliance activities.
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting controls, procedures, and documentation and identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce manual work.
  • Utilize and support accounting, reporting, and business intelligence systems, including Microsoft Excel, Tableau, and other financial systems.
  • Assist with system implementations, testing, interfaces, reporting tools, and automated processes.
  • Collaborate with Finance, IT, Revenue Cycle, HR, clinical departments, and operational leadership to resolve financial and system-related issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality and provide backup support and assistance with special projects and other Finance Department functions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Experience with Tableau or other business intelligence/reporting tools.
  • Experience with accounting or enterprise financial systems.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Healthcare, physician practice, ambulatory surgery center, or related accounting experience.
  • Experience with multi-department, multi-location, or cost-center accounting.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, physician compensation, or departmental profitability reporting.
  • Experience supporting financial statement audits.

  • Ability to analyze financial information and clearly communicate findings to financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Sound judgment when handling confidential financial information.
  • Ability to adapt to changing systems, processes, and organizational needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
  • Ability to review detailed financial information and computer screens for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift office materials up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
