Job Description

Senior Flight Software Engineer

At Aeon, we design, build, and fly low-cost, modular, weapon systems for ground and air platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and small team that allows us to iterate, build and test quickly. If you are looking to solve hard technical problems with a team of passionate engineers in a hands-on, fast-paced environment, Aeon is the place for you.

We are looking for a Senior Flight Software Engineer to help develop the software that powers advanced guided-munition systems from concept through flight. In this role, you will work closely with guidance, navigation and control (GNC) and aerodynamics engineers to implement flight algorithms, integrate them into operational flight software, and build the simulation and test infrastructure needed to validate performance and achieve flight readiness. As a member of a small, highly collaborative team, you will contribute across the full software lifecycle, including embedded C/C++ development, SIL and HIL testing, software tooling, CI/CD improvements, and debugging complex issues spanning simulation, software, and hardware environments.

This is a full-time, in-person role located in Austin, TX with plans to move to Cedar Park, TX early 2027.

What youll do at Aeon:

• Develop embedded C/C++ for our operational flight program (OFP)
• Translate functional block diagrams, state machines, and algorithm definitions into flight software
• Build and maintain SIL and HIL test environments
• Develop unit, integration, and regression testing for flight software
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and deployment
• Develop software tools that improve simulation, testing, debugging, and flight-test workflows
• Own interfaces between flight software, sensors, actuators, avionics, and simulation
• Own and maintain software documentation, including architecture, interfaces, requirements, and test procedures
• Use ground and flight-test data to reproduce problems and drive fixes
• Work with GNC, aerodynamics, avionics, and test engineers from initial development through flight
Wed love to hear from you if you have:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong C/C++ fundamentals and proficiency developing embedded or real-time software
• Strong software engineering principles, including architecture, testing, debugging, and code review
• Demonstrated ability to translate functional diagrams, state machines, and engineering algorithms into C/C++
• Working knowledge of unit, integration, and automated testing methodologies
• Familiarity with developing, maintaining, or utilizing SIL and HIL test environments
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, build systems, Git, and Linux-based development environments
• Proven ability to debug complex issues across hardware and software boundaries
• Strong technical documentation skills, including software designs, interfaces, and engineering decisions
• Background supporting aerospace, robotics, automotive, defense, or other real-time systems
• Experience with 6DoF simulation, MATLAB/Simulink, controls, or flight dynamics is a plus
• Must be a U.S. person under ITAR
What We Offer:

Fully Company-Sponsored Health Benefits: Enjoy comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage at no cost to you, including coverage for eligible dependents, plus HSA and FSA options.

Team Events & Company Celebrations: Connect with colleagues through team-building activities, employee events, and celebrations.
