Job Description
MAIN FUNCTION:
Primary responsibility is to protect and safeguard employees, patients, visitors, and property by providing a visible deterrence and de-escalation to crime.
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Practice/Performance Improvement
- Primary station is Emergency Room Department
- Patrols building and grounds of Hospital to prevent fires, theft and vandalism.
- Monitors building access control and camera systems regularly and reports any unusual trends, activities, or outages to Director of Facilities and Safety Officer (s).
- Ensures only authorized personnel are admitted onto Hospital premises.
- Escorts visitors, patients, personnel to and from parking areas as needed.
- Assists motorists who become stranded on Hospital property.
- Maintains current information in lost and found logs. Notifies individuals when items reported as missing are located.
- Serves as a member of the Code Team and responds to all Hospital codes.
- Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances reported by Hospital personnel, visitors, physicians or patients and reports all incidents, verbally or through general incident form, by the end of each shift.
- Writes incident reports and documents investigatory steps and results.
- Responds to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients.
- Maintains CPR, clinical restraint, and NYS Security Guard licensure/training.
- Patrols parking lot areas to detect any irregularities and enforces proper parking practices by employees.
- Inspects outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft of Hospital Property.
- Reports all safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections to Safety Officer(s).
- Assists and gives courteous responses to any inquiries made by patients, visitors, or personnel.
- Monitors Hospital using electronic security equipment (closed-circuit television, alarms, etc.)
- Enforces all Hospital policies/procedures as assigned by Administration and Director of Facilities.
- Liaison with local law enforcement.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending. Must be able to physically participate and respond to Code situations.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work inside and outside in snow, rain, and heat. Potential exposure to mechanical rooms, chemicals, communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
Requirements:EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS: Registered as a Security Guard in NYS, or close to completion.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in security and/or law preferred. Must successfully pass PMCS training.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common/trade/technical journals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
MATH ABILITY: Basic math skills.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with possibility of high stress level situations. Ability to deal with disorderly and combative patients/visitors.
