Engineer in at South China Morning Post

Purpose of the Position:

Work with our forward-thinking IT development team to execute core concepts and shape the next generation of our platform by modernizing, optimizing, and simplifying it. You will build highly scalable new features, integrate AI-driven solutions, and collaborate closely with Design and Product teams to deliver a seamless, intelligent, and visually striking user experience.

In this role, you will:

• Develop reusable, modular code and libraries for future use while ensuring the technical feasibility and performance of modern UI/UX designs.
• Integrate Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI capabilities into our platform to enhance user experience and automate internal processes.
• Build new features and maintain existing cloud-native web projects and systems, ensuring high-quality, secure, and scalable code.
• Work closely with designers, product managers, and AI specialists to drive business goals, iterate rapidly, and deliver impactful product updates.
• Stay current with latest industry trends; evaluate and implement the best modern frameworks, AI coding assistants, and cloud tools for our projects.

Skills and Experience that will lead to success:

• Degree holder in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of 2 years of modern web development experience.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI APIs (e.g., Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic) into web applications, and proficiency using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate coding and testing.
• Proficient in Node.js and modern PHP, with strong database design skills in MySQL (experience with PostgreSQL or NoSQL is a plus).
• Solid experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript and reactive frameworks such as Vue.js (Nuxt preferred).
• Solid knowledge of responsive web architecture, modern CSS frameworks (e.g., Tailwind, CSS modules), and accessibility standards.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying in a microservice architecture using Docker and Kubernetes.

Bonus/Advantageous Skills:

• Experience with Magento or modern headless/composable commerce architectures.
• Good understanding of web performance tuning (Core Web Vitals), web analytics, and modern AI-driven SEO techniques.
• Experience with modern DevOps pipelines, CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jira), and AI-augmented test automation.

Work location will be at Wong Chuk Hang office.
