This senior legal leadership role is focused on shaping and scaling the legal framework that governs the acquisition, licensing, and distribution of data and content within a fast-growing global technology environment. The Director will serve as a strategic advisor and hands-on negotiator, handling highly complex commercial agreements while enabling business teams to move quickly and confidently in a highly regulated landscape. This position blends deep expertise in content/data rights with strong commercial judgment, supporting cross-functional teams including Content, Sales, Product, and executive leadership. Operating in a dynamic, high-growth setting, the role is central to ensuring compliant, scalable, and value-driven data partnerships. It also includes the opportunity to build and manage a small team, helping shape the future of the legal function.
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of complex commercial agreements related to data and content licensing, including sell-side research, market data, distribution, aggregation, and vendor contracts.
- Serve as a primary legal advisor to internal stakeholders and executive leadership on data rights, content usage, regulatory considerations, and commercial strategy.
- Build, refine, and scale legal frameworks, playbooks, and policies to support efficient and compliant growth of data and content operations.
- Partner closely with Content, Product, Sales, and other cross-functional teams to support acquisition, distribution, and strategic use of licensed content.
- Manage post-agreement obligations, ensuring compliance with contractual terms, governance structures, and business objectives.
- Monitor evolving legal and regulatory developments in intellectual property, privacy, financial data, and related areas to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Develop and manage a small legal team to increase operational capacity and support business growth.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
- 8+ years of experience in drafting, negotiating, and advising on data/content licensing agreements, ideally within a broker-dealer, investment bank, financial data provider, or similar environment.
- Strong expertise in commercial contracts, including MSAs, data licensing agreements, SLAs, SOWs, order forms, NDAs, and related structures.
- Deep understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks related to intellectual property, financial data, securities, privacy, and content rights.
- Proven ability to advise senior stakeholders and translate legal risk into clear, business-oriented guidance.
- Strong negotiation skills with experience handling complex, high-value commercial agreements.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset.
- Leadership experience or strong potential to manage and develop a small legal team.
- Competitive base compensation: $220,000 – $240,000 USD annually.
