Job Description

Job Title: Press Brake Operator

Reports to: Production Supervisor

Position Status: Hourly

General Purpose of the Job:

The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a press brake machine to bend, form, and shape metal parts according to specifications. The operator will ensure that the press brake operates efficiently, produce parts that meet quality standards, and maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Set up and Operate Press Brake:
    • Set up and operate press brake machines to bend, form, or straighten metal sheets or parts according to detailed drawings, blueprints, or specifications.
  • Blueprint Reading:
    • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and production schedules to determine correct machine settings and sequences.
  • Machine Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance on the press brake machine, including lubrication, cleaning, and inspection to ensure smooth operation.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect finished parts for conformity to specifications using measuring tools such as calipers, squares, and gauges. Ensure high-quality standards are met.
  • Material Handling:
    • Safely load and unload materials, ensuring proper handling to avoid damage.
  • Tool Changes:
    • Install and adjust the required dies, punches, and other tooling to meet specifications.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and work with maintenance personnel to resolve issues promptly.
  • Safety:
    • Follow all safety procedures and wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate records of production runs, materials used, and inspection results.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other team members, such as machine operators and supervisors, to ensure the efficient flow of production.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience operating a press brake or similar machinery.

- Knowledge of machine operation, setup, and maintenance. Familiarity with metalworking tools and equipment.

- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job orders.

- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations related to bending and forming.

- Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in a manufacturing environment.

- Strong focus on precision and quality to produce defect-free products.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Bilingual English / Spanish preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Forklift certification preferred but not required.
