Description:

The Dispatch Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing daily transportation and logistics operations within a fast-paced scrap metal recycling facility. This role works closely with sales, scale operators, and drivers to ensure efficient routing, timely pickups, and high levels of customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in problem-solving and communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily dispatch operations for roll-off, lugger, container, and/or tractor-trailer routes
  • Develop and adjust driver schedules to maximize efficiency and meet customer needs
  • Monitor route progress and proactively troubleshoot delays, breakdowns, and service issues
  • Optimize routing to reduce fuel costs, improve turnaround times, and increase load capacity
  • Provide timely updates to internal teams regarding delays, issues, or service changes
  • Respond to customer requests, service changes, and urgent pickup needs
  • Serve as a back up scale operator, including Saturdays as needed.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through responsiveness and problem resolution
  • Quickly identify and resolve scheduling conflicts, equipment issues, and route inefficiencies
  • Respond to real-time operational challenges, such as traffic delays, equipment downtime, or staffing gaps
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of dispatch, logistics, or transportation coordination experience
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with dispatch or routing software preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and driver scheduling practices

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, and dust.
  • Ability to sit, stand, communicate effectively and use a computer for extended periods.
