The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Surgery, Division of General/Trauma Surgery has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Associate. The Department of Surgery's dedication to excellence in research drives our commitment to seek out and train the best of the next generation of biomedical scientists.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must possess an M.D. or PhD in biomedical sciences or a related field. They should have the ability to work collaboratively and be interested in working with individuals from many different backgrounds, including clinicians and basic scientists. Candidates should also have effective writing and interpersonal skills.

Job Description: Under the direction of the principal investigator, Dr. Timothy Billiar, the Postdoctoral Associate will design, execute, and analyze in vivo mouse studies to evaluate the anti-tumor effects of NOS2 and/or COX2 inhibition in colorectal cancer models, including liver metastases. This individual will investigate whether targeting these pathways enhances the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies and will characterize associated changes in the tumor microenvironment using imaging-based approaches and emerging techniques such as pilot single-cell analyses. The role also involves performing and optimizing a range of molecular, cellular, and immunologic assays related to tumor biology and immune regulation. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing experimental data, maintaining accurate and detailed research records, and contributing to the preparation of scientific presentations, manuscripts, and grant applications. In addition, this individual will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary investigators, trainees, and institutional core facilities to advance project objectives, while also supporting laboratory operations, mentoring junior trainees, contributing to the development of new experimental approaches as needed. and will perform any other assignments that the principal investigator may request.
