FMI seeking a Refrasil / Silica Operator – 1 to join our Silica Carbon Team. This role supports the manufacturing of advanced rayon and silica-based materials used in high-performance applications. The Operator will be responsible for safely operating production equipment, monitoring product quality, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to an efficient, team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret work instructions, procedures, and specifications
  • Process glass yarns, fibers, and cloth through various chemical and thermal operations
  • Handle chemicals used in manufacturing processes, including acids, coatings, and treatment solutions, while following all safety procedures
  • Operate and monitor leach lines, tank farms, and related support systems
  • Perform high-temperature oven treatments and carbonization processes
  • Set up, start up, and shut down production equipment safely and efficiently
  • Monitor material flow and move products between production and warehouse areas
  • Conduct quality inspections, including measuring, grading, and visual defect checks
  • Prepare production reports, quality documentation, and maintain accurate logs.
  • Perform minor equipment maintenance and report mechanical issue.
  • Operate textile machinery, including skeining, spooling, and winding equipment, and package finished goods
  • Participate in team problem-solving activities and support continuous improvement initiatives

What We Need From You:

  • High school diploma or GED required; 1+ year of manufacturing or related experience preferred
  • Experience with composites, textiles, or similar manufacturing processes is a plus
  • Commitment to safety with the ability to follow work instructions, procedures, and requirements
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn equipment operation, troubleshooting, and production processes
  • Strong attention to detail with basic math skills and a focus on quality and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Basic computer skills

E Shift

  • 6a to 6p Monday through Thursday

F Shift

  • 6a to – 6p Monday through Thursday
