Summary
The part-time Consultant (30 hours per week) manages outreach to a wide range of stakeholders on behalf of the Association and its senior leaders, focusing on intellectual property issues.
This position is an important contributor to the government affairs function, helping to guide and facilitate advocacy efforts that promote achievement of the Association’s goals. This position also collaborates with internal stakeholders to ensure cross-functional alignment.
Principal Accountabilities
- Lead a regular cadence of principal-to-principal engagements with key stakeholders, including Patent and Trademark Offices, and proactively identify and create linkages between Association experts and public officials.
- Assist staff liaison for various INTA committees.
- Facilitate government relations efforts through outreach to thought leaders to increase transparency and understanding of the organization and strengthen relationships around Association activities.
· Work collaboratively with senior officials in the legislature regarding government relations priorities.
- Track and regularly report on relevant legislation at the federal level.
- Other duties as assigned by Senior Director, Government Relations.
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree. Law degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, including working directly with a Patent and Trademark Office. Additional legislative experience a plus.
- Deep knowledge and experience of intellectual property law, in particular, trademarks.
- Excellent communication skills. Speech writing experience a plus.
- Proven track record building and managing relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills; ability to synthesize complex streams of information and interpret nuanced issues.
- Demonstrated ability to work with various constituencies to guide competing interests along a common path.
