Position Summary
Fort George Community Services is seeking a passionate UPK Teacher to lead a classroom of 3-year-old children in partnership with an Assistant Teacher. This role is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that promotes school readiness, social-emotional development, and family engagement for up to 15 children.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum and learning experiences.
- Foster children's growth in literacy, language, numeracy, social-emotional, and problem-solving skills.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports children of all abilities.
- Observe, assess, and document children's progress using Teaching Strategies GOLD and other required tools.
- Develop individualized learning goals and lesson plans.
- Build strong partnerships with families through ongoing communication, conferences, and engagement activities.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and organized classroom aligned with DOE, Head Start, and licensing requirements.
- Collaborate with education staff, specialists, and families to support children's developmental needs.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, outdoor play, and field trips.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required; currently enrolled in or pursuing a Master's Degree.
- New York State Teacher Certification (Birth-Grade 2) required.
- Must meet New York City Health Code Article 47.13 requirements.
- Basic computer proficiency, including email, Microsoft Word, and internet navigation.
- Ability to lift and assist children weighing up to 40 pounds when necessary.
