Sessional - Faculty (ENGL 0400-T) in Bella Coola, British Columbia at Thompson Rivers University

The University and Employment Preparation Department (Faculty of Education and Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a sessional faculty member to teach one section of ENGL 0400, in-person delivery in the community of Tl’etinqox, BC.

ENGL 0400 is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to enter higher level courses. It is based on the following core skills: vocabulary development, reading, writing and study skills.

• Master's degree in a relevant field (required)
• At least one degree in English (required)
• Teaching Certificate, or Instructor's Diploma, or 5 years teaching experience (required)
• Experience teaching students whose educational, social, and economic backgrounds are diverse, and for whom previous school experience may have been challenging (required)
• Demonstrated evidence of scholarly teaching (required)
• Experience working in Indigenous communities and/or with Indigenous students (required)
• Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in ABE English courses (preferred)
• Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) (preferred)
• Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) (preferred)
• Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) (preferred)
