Senior .Net Backend Developer (digital banking)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior .NET Backend Developer (Digital Banking) based in Canada.

This is a senior-level backend engineering opportunity focused on building scalable, secure, and reliable solutions for digital banking environments.
You will design and develop enterprise-grade APIs and services using modern .NET and Azure technologies.
The role combines hands-on development with architectural thinking, technical problem-solving, and end-to-end ownership.
You will work on complex, mission-critical projects involving digital banking platforms, integrations, and financial systems.
Collaboration with product, design, DevOps, and engineering teams will be central to delivering high-quality solutions.
The environment is Agile, consultative, and technology-driven, with opportunities to mentor peers and influence technical decisions.
This is a 100% remote, full-time position for candidates based in Canada, offering competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable backend services and APIs using C#, .NET 6/7/8, and ASP.NET Core Web API.
  • Translate complex business and technical requirements into practical, maintainable software solutions.
  • Architect and implement enterprise systems using Clean Architecture, SOLID principles, microservices, and modern software design patterns.
  • Build and document RESTful APIs, integrations, and services using Swagger/OpenAPI and secure authentication mechanisms.
  • Develop solutions that integrate with digital banking platforms, core banking systems, and third-party financial services.
  • Leverage Microsoft Azure services such as App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Key Vault, and Application Insights.
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code, using automated testing frameworks such as xUnit and Moq.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, technical planning, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, optimize application performance, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to CI/CD practices using Git and Azure DevOps, ensuring reliable and efficient software delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other developers while helping maintain strong engineering standards.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders across multiple projects.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience with C# and .NET Framework/Core.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with .NET 6/7/8 and ASP.NET Core Web API.
  • Professional services experience delivering complex, mission-critical projects involving digital banking platforms, such as Forge, Plumery, VeriPark, Temenos, or Backbase.
  • Strong knowledge of Clean Architecture, SOLID principles, and microservices patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services, particularly App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Key Vault, and Application Insights.
  • Strong experience designing and documenting RESTful APIs using Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • Familiarity with AutoMapper, System.Text.Json, xUnit, and Moq.
  • Knowledge of JWT/OAuth2, Azure AD, and secure role-based API development.
  • Experience with Git and Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge and experience with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server.
  • Strong debugging, performance optimization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a proactive, consultative, and resourceful approach.
  • Must be currently based in Canada and available for a 100% remote, full-time role.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in banking, financial services, or fintech.
  • Experience integrating with core banking systems or third-party financial APIs.
  • Experience implementing CQRS with MediatR.
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerized deployments.
  • Experience with Redis or distributed caching.
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures and message-based systems.
  • Understanding of API versioning and advanced performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of OWASP principles and secure software development practices.
