Survey of Science Online Instructor

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Survey of Science Online Instructor based in United States.

This part-time teaching opportunity is designed for an experienced science educator passionate about helping students build strong foundations across multiple scientific disciplines. You will guide students in grades 8–12 through an engaging online course covering biology, chemistry, and physics. The course emphasizes inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to develop scientific reasoning and apply concepts through rigorous science practices. Working primarily asynchronously, you will mentor a diverse group of learners in a multidisciplinary virtual environment. The role offers an opportunity to use innovative educational technology and digital learning tools to create meaningful student engagement. You will contribute to an inclusive learning environment focused on equity, excellence, and student potential.

Accountabilities
  • Guide and mentor a cohort of students in grades 8–12 through structured online learning modules and provide consistent academic support throughout the course.
  • Teach foundational concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics using an inquiry-based approach that encourages scientific reasoning, investigation, and critical thinking.
  • Facilitate learning within a multidisciplinary virtual environment and adapt instructional approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Use the Canvas learning management system to deliver course content, organize learning activities, communicate with students, and support online instruction.
  • Leverage evolving educational technologies and digital tools to create engaging and effective virtual learning experiences.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with students while providing guidance, feedback, and mentorship throughout their learning journey.
  • Contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive teaching environment that supports student success and encourages participation from learners with varied backgrounds and experiences.
  • Work primarily asynchronously while maintaining appropriate availability and engagement based on course needs and enrollment.
  • Perform teaching responsibilities remotely with substantial computer-based work and effective written and verbal communication.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Education, STEM, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant secondary-level science teaching or professional experience.
  • Broad knowledge across multiple areas of science, particularly biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry-based science instruction and the ability to help students develop scientific reasoning and foundational concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students in virtual and online learning environments.
  • Experience or familiarity with online learning management systems, particularly Canvas, is valuable.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage and support a diverse group of high school students in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Comfort with evolving educational technologies and the ability to incorporate digital tools into virtual instruction.
  • Strong mentoring, organization, adaptability, and student-focused problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, primarily asynchronous environment while maintaining consistent communication and instructional quality.
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive educational environment.
  • Ability to perform substantial computer-based work and meet the communication, visual, and auditory requirements of the position, with reasonable accommodations available when needed.
Benefits
  • Compensation of $48.00 per hour.
  • Part-time employment with a 10-month appointment.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Primarily asynchronous course structure, offering flexibility in how instructional responsibilities are managed.
  • Typical workload of approximately 10 hours per week for a cohort of around 20 students, with actual hours varying based on enrollment.
  • Opportunity to teach students in grades 8–12 and support their development in foundational STEM disciplines.
  • Opportunity to contribute to an inclusive educational model centered on equity and excellence.
  • Course begins in September 2026, with the position beginning in August 2026.
  • The course is scheduled to run from late September through early January, with another course offering from January through May.
  • This position is not benefits eligible.
