This is a broad, high-impact legal role within a lean and growing legal function supporting advanced technology and mission-critical business operations.
You will advise senior leaders and cross-functional teams across commercial, government contracting, corporate, regulatory, and operational matters.
The role provides significant ownership, allowing you to manage complex matters while helping shape scalable legal processes and best practices.
You will work closely with teams spanning sales, finance, engineering, product, supply chain, security, HR, and program management.
The position is ideal for a practical, business-minded attorney who can balance legal risk with commercial objectives and move confidently in an evolving environment.

Based in the Washington, D.C. area, this hybrid position combines independent ownership with regular in-person collaboration.
- Advise business leaders and cross-functional teams on commercial, corporate, regulatory, employment, compliance, and operational legal matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate customer, vendor, partnership, licensing, services, confidentiality, and other commercial agreements.
- Support the full lifecycle of government contracting opportunities, including capture and proposals, solicitation reviews, prime contracts, subcontracts, teaming arrangements, modifications, performance matters, claims, and disputes.
- Advise on export controls, trade compliance, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), cybersecurity requirements, ethics and compliance, industrial security, investigations, and related regulatory matters.
- Support corporate governance, financing and investor diligence, board matters, intellectual property, real estate, insurance, employment matters, and strategic transactions.
- Partner with sales, contracts, finance, engineering, product, supply chain, security, HR, and program teams to identify legal issues early and develop practical, decision-ready solutions.
- Develop legal templates, playbooks, policies, training materials, and processes that improve consistency, responsiveness, and efficiency as the organization scales.
- Manage outside counsel effectively when specialized legal support is required.
- Prioritize and take ownership of emerging legal needs across the business while balancing strategic initiatives with immediate operational requirements.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 6+ years of relevant legal experience gained in a law firm, in-house legal department, growth-stage company, or combination of these environments.
- Experience with government contracts or export controls is strongly preferred.
- Experience in defense, aerospace, technology, regulated industries, startups, or high-growth environments is advantageous.
- Strong drafting, contract negotiation, analytical, communication, and legal research skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex matters and competing priorities with sound judgment, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
- Practical, commercially minded approach with the ability to distinguish material legal and business risks from issues that can be managed pragmatically.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek input, collaborate, or escalate issues appropriately.
- Genuine interest in developing a strong understanding of technology, products, customers, and the broader operating environment.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in legal practice, client service, judgment, adaptability, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Comfortable working outside rigid subject-matter boundaries and contributing across a broad range of legal and business matters.
- Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
- U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the technology, and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance may be required.
- Estimated salary range of $137,653–$220,245 annually, depending on experience, education, skills, responsibilities, market conditions, and business considerations.
