Salary Range: $200000 to 260000 per annumAbout the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Principal Firmware Engineer to join a leading Optical Connectivity Firmware team developing next-generation optical interconnect solutions for hyperscale cloud providers, data centers, and emerging Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) platforms.This is a highly technical individual contributor role responsible for driving firmware architecture, development, validation, and production release for coherent optical module programs, including 400ZR, 400ZR+, and 800ZR platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end firmware development for coherent optical module programs from architecture through production release.
- Lead firmware bring-up, calibration, validation, and customer delivery milestones.
- Design and implement advanced firmware capabilities including: Hitless/In-Service Firmware Upgrades, CMIS Compliance, Bootloader Architecture, Calibration & Control Engines, Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL)
- Collaborate with DSP, hardware, validation, ATE, and test engineering teams to resolve complex system-level challenges.
- Support customer engagements by troubleshooting field issues and delivering robust firmware solutions.
- Drive firmware architecture improvements, shared platform infrastructure, automation, tooling, and release processes.
- Mentor engineering teams and serve as a technical subject matter expert.
- 15+ years of embedded software/firmware development experience.
- Deep expertise in coherent optical module firmware: 400ZR, 400ZR+, 800ZR, Similar coherent optical technologies
- Strong knowledge of industry standards: OIF-400ZR, CMIS 4.x / 5.x, C-CMIS
- Extensive experience with: Bootloader Design, Firmware Upgrade Mechanisms, Hitless Firmware Updates, Flash Memory Management
- Experience with SoC-based embedded platforms (MCU/DSP architectures).
- Strong programming skills in: C, C++, Python (Automation & Testing)
- Proven ability to lead firmware programs from prototype bring-up through GA release and production support.
- Strong hardware/firmware debugging expertise.
- Experience with: ATE Integration, Lab Bring-Up, Customer Escalation Support, Field Issue Resolution
- Hands-on experience with: Jira, GitLab, CI/CD Firmware Release Workflows
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with an optical module manufacturer or optical semiconductor company.
- Familiarity with Marvell coherent DSP platforms or equivalent optical networking technologies.
- Experience developing calibration and control algorithms for optical components such as, EDFA, Mach-Zehnder Modulators (MZ), TOSA, Other optical subsystems
- Exposure to Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) platforms.
