Responsibilities
KH HIM professionals are highly trained in the latest information management technologies, including Epic, Paper document management systems, and other EHR applications. HIM Specialists impact the quality of patient information and patient care at every touch point in the clinical revenue cycle. We care for patients by monitoring the quality, integrity, security, of the patient’s health information (PHI). We’re the link between clinicians, payors, patients, and information technology professionals.
Job Requirements
- Supports patients’ rights through maintaining the confidentiality of patient medical information by processing the protected health information (PHI) in accordance with hospital policies, State/Federal laws, and HIPAA regulations.
- Follows “Best Practice” protocols for authenticating validity of requests, disseminating confidential information, and assuring the integrity of the documentation being released for every record, every patient/requestor, every time.
- Interacts directly with patient’s and customers via phone, internal office, and email.
- Must possess the technical skills in working with an electronic health record system (Epic) and ensure compliance in the evolving federal disclosure and meaningful use regulations for PHI release.
- Maintain a high level of friendly customer service while representing Kettering Health.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment while fostering collaboration, engagement, and teamwork.
- Possess adaptability and flexibility for learning new concepts with artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation skills in a professional manner.
- Open all incoming, and interoffice mail.
- Posts all medical record payments via check, or credit card, scan checks to bank.
- Embrace a continuous process improvement methodology and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
- Must organize and prioritize work to meet Quality and Productivity standards while working designated ROI Workqueue.
- Address any issue or concerns in the workflow to ROI Team Lead/ROI Coordinator/Manager in real time to ensure concerns are handled effectively.
- Meet or exceed established work standards and follow all ROI created Job descriptions.
- Process MyChart Proxy requests.
- Follow KH BWELL behavioral practices within the team, and organization.
Minimum Education
- Associate degree
Qualifications
- Associate degree in health information management or health-related field preferred, or a minimum of five years’ comparable experience in a hospital-related setting.
- RHIT or RHIA
