About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The Alliance is seeking a skilled Accounting Specialist to join our team! In this key role, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial transactions of the organization, ensuring accuracy in accounts receivable and accounts payable. You will work across Alliance teams and partner with the outsourced accounting firm to maintain the organization’s financial health. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter who is reliable, detail-oriented and communicates effectively.
This role requires a minimum of three (3) days a week in the Alexandria, VA office.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, including verifying invoices and check requests, and vendor payments.
- Process accounts receivable and makes bank deposits on a consistent basis.
- Record financial information into appropriate software programs.
- Manage and process other day-to-day financial transactions, such as employee expense requests.
- Perform bank account reconciliations, resolving any discrepancies or issues that arise.
- Reconcile credit cards, tracks credit card charges and receipts, etc.
- Maintain documentation and ensure accurate record-keeping for audits and tax filings.
- Assist with annual tax/audit preparation.
- Function as the liaison between the organization and the outsourced accounting firm.
- Other duties as assigned.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- At a minimum, an associate degree in accounting.
- 2-4 years of proven experience as a bookkeeper or other accounting related roles.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, to include knowledge and skill in analyzing, reviewing, and validating financial data.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, and other office productivity tools.
- Proficient with Impexium, Sage Intacct, BILL.com, QuickBooks and/or other accounting software.
- Ability to respond promptly and courteously to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.
- Effectively works with all levels inside and outside the organization, including executive management.
- Ability to work efficiently and productively in a multi-task environment, independently and with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational, time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Skilled in identifying and analyzing problems using sound judgment to determine solutions and effectively resolve issues.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This position is classified as a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting hourly rate of $30.29 to $34.62/hour (commensurate with related experience).
