About This Position

Missoula College invites applications for a CDL Instructor to deliver programming which results in students being able to successfully pass the Montana State Examination for a Type 1 Certification - Class A Commercial License at both the Missoula and Hamilton locations of CDL-MT. The instructor will also assist the Lead CDL Instructor in curriculum development and design, student recruitment, student retention, and student placement. The instructor will be responsible for assisting in maintaining the CDL-MT program equipment through regular inspections and service maintenance. This is a temporary appointment ending on or before June 30, 2025.



  • Possess a current and ‘in good standing’ Montana Type 1 Certification - Class A Commercial License
  • A minimum of three years of experience working as a commercial truck driver within the past 10 years
  • Two years of experience working as a Commercial Driver License instructor (OR a high school diploma [or GED or HiSET] and substantial related work experience OR an Associate degree in a related discipline)
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail skills
  • Competent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and email; ability to learn CDL specific learning management system, competent with standard office equipment including copier, fax, multi-line phone, printer, and scanner
  • Knowledge of best practices in commercial truck driving instruction
  • Knowledge of maintaining tractor rigs and trailers
  • Expert knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Knowledge of best practices in instruction/teaching for adult populations
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends

Work Schedule: Temporary Appointment ending on or before June 30, 2025, Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Schedule may vary.
