About This Position
PAY RANGE $15-$20 (D.O.E.)
JOB SUMMARY:
The part-time Planning Intern will create illustrations to support and clarify the regulations of the Land Management Code, including building massing, architectural features, and landscaping concepts.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Develop a coordinated suite of quality illustrations depicting pedestrian-oriented mixed-use buildings with active ground-floor storefronts; complete street sections (travel lanes, bike lanes, sidewalks, park strips, street trees); residential massing in Historic Districts and on steep slopes; and landscape treatments including Wildland Urban Interface and water wise concepts. Limited graphics may be incorporated into the Land Management Code, and others will be used to illustrate design guidelines, staff reports, and presentations.
- Prepare all files in scalable vector format (Adobe Illustrator preferred), organized with labeled layers, editable linework, and separate elements for buildings, streets, landscape, and annotations to allow future updates.
- Maintain a consistent style across all illustrations, including standardized line weights, restrained color palette, unified typography and labeling, and consistent drawing type (elevation, section, or axonometric as directed).
- Base all drawings on accurate, code-compliant dimensions and realistic proportions, reflecting correct relationships between structures, grade, and streets.
- Coordinate closely with Planning staff through iterative review to verify assumptions, dimensional accuracy, and policy alignment.
- Incorporate consolidated feedback and deliver revised and final files according to agreed-upon deadlines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or 3+ years’ experience in a related field.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or other similar software
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to provide a portfolio or samples of previous design work.
