About This Position

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under supervision, incumbent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.

Assists/conducts the training of grounds personnel, community service works and volunteers.
•Supervises the daily duties of the groundskeepers, part-time/seasonal maintenance Workers, community service workers and volunteers.
•Communicates departmental policies, plans and procedures to those under his/her supervision.
•Assures that all tasks assigned are completed in a timely and professional manner with minimal disruption to golf course operations and/or to
public play.
•Fosters positive relationships among subordinates and assists subordinates in performing their duties.
•Receives and communicates complaints and comments to the Golf Course Superintendent.
•Executes mowing, fertilization, irrigation, general equipment maintenance and chemical application schedules as determined by the Golf Course Superintendent.
• Assists in maintaining inventory for chemicals, fertilizer, irrigation parts, and othergolf course accessories.
•Conducts general maintenance on turf care equipment, including the adjustment ofspecialized turf care equipment, irrigation systems and tools.
•Conducts general maintenance of golf cars, mowers, utility vehicles/attachments,tractors/attachments, reels, tools and other equipment.
•Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personneldiscipline.
•Assumes the role of weekend supervisor as instructed by the Golf CourseSuperintendent.
•Opens and closes facilities as needed.
•Assists with the interviewing process for golf maintenance positions.
•Modify the daily work schedule based on professional nterpretation.
•Operate heavy equipment and machinery including but not limited to tractors, mowers, aerifiers, chain saw, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand power tools, etc.
•Conduct other duties as assigned
Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.
•Valid Driver’s License.
•Valid Kansas State Commercial Pesticide Applicator certification or promissory intent to obtain one within
30 days of hire.
•Minimum of two years’ supervisory experience.
•Two- or four-year college degree with an emphasis in turf management/golf course management preferred.
•Any equivalent combination of relative education and experience accepted for consideration Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
•Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
•Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of contacts.
•Ability to diagnose various turf problems, including disease, wilt, weeds, or turf pests.
•Ability to utilize resources properly and establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, co-workers and the public.
