About This Position

Statement of Purpose:

Organizes, leads, and participates in the daily work activities of the Environmental Services Division. Ensures all hospital areas are cleaned and sanitized in accordance with Environmental Services and Infection Control policies and procedures.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assists with planning and daily scheduling of Environmental Services work activities for the cleaning. Leads EVS team members in various tasks and responsibilities; inspects finished work or projects to ensure prescribed standards are maintained.
  2. Ensures that cleaning schedules for all areas of the hospital are developed, implemented, maintained and revised as needed. Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of various areas of the hospital on a regular basis, recommends corrective action as needed.
  3. Assists with all phases of Linen Management:
  1. May inventory linen items as needed to ensure adequate supplies of linen are available.
  2. Maintains communication with Environmental Services Management and clean linen supplier/processor to facilitate and expedite linen processing/return.
  3. Assists with assessments of hospital-owned linen to determine need of mending or replacement.
  4. Responsible for daily clean linen supply as needed.
  1. Performs all functions necessary to maintain safe, sanitary and attractive areas. Duties include, but are not limited to, dusting, mopping floors, scrubbing floors, sealing and finishing floors, cleaning walls and woodwork, cleaning patient rooms, emptying waste containers. Works in all EVS areas of assignment on a regular basis covering call offs as needed including but not limited to: Clean Linen Room, Med-Surg areas, O.R., Maternity/OB, ASU and all designated office spaces or areas. Occasionally required to work 2nd and/or 3rd shifts.
  2. Prepares requisitions for supplies and materials; assists with department budget preparation and capital equipment requests.
  3. May assist Director with employee progress appraisals, annual performance appraisals or other personnel actions/activities. Assists with training programs to ensure minimum competency requirements for EVS. Promotes and develops interdepartmental communication.
  4. When Staffing needs dictate, may be scheduled to work an alternate shift.

EDUCATION: High School or equivalency. Must be willing to continue educational training

EXPERIENCE: Two years’ experience in a health-care Environmental Services position with basic supervisory experience desired.

CONTACTS: Close coordination with employees in own department, frequent contact with other hospital employees, patients and visitors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands and walks most of the day. Stoops, crouches and kneels. Occasionally climbs step-ladder. May lift and carry items of moderate weight.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works in well-lighted and well-ventilated areas. Exposed to numerous cleaning agents, detergents, sanitizers, dust, dirt, trash and unpleasant odors. Observes and uses Infection Control Standard Precautions while accomplishing all daily assignments. Works various shift hours, holidays and weekends.
