General Responsibilities
-
The Nurse is responsible for the identification, management and resolution of health problems of individuals in the school program or residential areas. In addition, they are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of individual health care appropriate to the ages and populations served. The Nurse maintains operational aspects of assigned individual heath care areas and works collaboratively with the other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.

This position supports Melmark New England’s mission to serve children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological diseases and disorders, comorbid mental health disorders and severe challenging behaviors. It is required that employees demonstrate their understanding of that service mission through their work behavior and commitment to the students and the staff who are directly involved in the delivery of that service.

All staff are expected to adhere to Melmark’s Code of Conduct and Standards of Professionalism included in the Employee Handbook. In addition, all management/supervisory positions are expected to adhere to Melmark’s Management Competencies included in the Employee Handbook. It is the responsibility of each staff member to read and familiarize themselves with the contents of the Employee Handbook and ask questions relative to the application of these standards in the workplace if unclear to the employee.

Basic Qualifications

Education/Training
-
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred; Registered Nurse considered.

Certifications/Licensure
-
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Massachusetts Board of Nurse Examiners. A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Must meet Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check requirements. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and Melmark’s Orientation Program and New Hire Onsite training program.

Skill(s)
-
Strong general nursing skills with emphasis on the care of individuals who are emotionally, behaviorally, neurologically or developmentally disabled. Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.

Experience
-
Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in a developmental disabilities setting with minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience preferred.
