Job Description

Underground Construction Groundman – Substations

Foundation, Conduit & Grounding | Entry-Level Opportunity

Pay Range: $20.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience

Build a Career in Utility Construction

Powerserve Technologies is looking for hardworking individuals with general construction experience who are interested in building a long-term career in the electrical utility and substation construction industry.

Previous substation experience is NOT required.

If you have experience in construction, concrete, underground utilities, civil work, excavation, site development, road construction, landscaping, heavy equipment, or another hands-on trade, we are interested in talking with you.

We will teach you the substation-specific work. What we need from you is construction experience, a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to travel and learn.

What You'll Do

As an Underground Construction Groundman, you will work with our Foundation, Conduit & Grounding (FCG) crews building the underground infrastructure that supports high-voltage electrical substations throughout Florida.

You will assist experienced crew members with work including:

  • Excavation and site preparation
  • Building and installing concrete foundations
  • Setting forms and assisting with concrete pours
  • Installing and tying reinforcing steel and rebar
  • Installing underground conduit systems
  • Installing substation grounding systems and ground grid
  • Trenching, measuring, layout, and backfilling
  • Loading and unloading construction materials
  • Using hand tools and power tools
  • Assisting with operation of construction equipment
  • Maintaining safe and organized jobsites
  • Learning to read construction drawings, layouts, and specifications
  • Performing other hands-on construction activities as part of the crew

This is a physical, hands-on outdoor construction job. You should be comfortable getting dirty, working with your hands, and working as part of a crew.

What We're Looking For

You do not need previous substation experience.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Previous construction, utility, civil, concrete, underground, or similar hands-on work experience
  • Experience working with basic hand and power tools
  • The ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the day
  • The ability to work outdoors year-round in Florida conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, mud, and changing weather
  • A strong commitment to jobsite safety
  • A willingness to learn a specialized construction trade
  • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic
  • A valid driver's license
  • Reliable personal transportation to get to and from project sites
  • The ability and willingness to travel throughout Florida
Preferred, But NOT Required
  • Class A CDL
  • Class B CDL
  • Concrete or foundation experience
  • Underground utility experience
  • Conduit installation experience
  • Grounding or electrical construction experience
  • Rebar/formwork experience
  • Skid steer, excavator, loader, or other construction equipment experience
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

A CDL is a plus, but you do not need one to apply.

IMPORTANT: This Is a Traveling Construction Position

Please understand the travel requirements before applying.

Our project sites are located throughout the state of Florida. This is not a position where you will report to the same local jobsite every day.

Projects may last several weeks or several months before the crew moves to another project.

You must:

  • Be willing to travel throughout Florida for work
  • Have reliable personal transportation
  • Be willing to use your personal vehicle to travel to and from assigned project locations
  • Be available for overtime, early starts, and occasional weekend or overnight work when project schedules require it

When a project is located more than approximately 1.5 hours from your home, Powerserve provides hotel accommodations in accordance with company travel policy. Applicable travel expenses and per diem are provided based on company policy and project requirements.

Physical Requirements

This position involves:

  • Regular lifting and carrying of construction materials and tools
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Bending, kneeling, climbing, digging, and performing repetitive physical work
  • Working around heavy construction equipment
  • Working on active utility construction sites
  • Working outdoors in hot, humid, rainy, and other changing weather conditions
Why Join Powerserve?

This is more than a general labor position. It is an opportunity to learn a specialized trade within the electrical utility construction industry.

For someone who works hard, learns the trade, and demonstrates strong safety and reliability, there are opportunities to advance into positions such as:

Groundman → Tradesman → Senior Tradesman → Crew Lead → Construction Leadership

If you already know how to work hard on a construction site, we can teach you the substation side of the business.

If you're looking to build a career instead of simply finding your next construction job, we encourage you to apply.
