General Description

The store manager is responsible for overseeing the success and growth of Worthwhile Thrift while also managing, leading, and empowering the store team of staff, volunteers, and participants.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the overall operations, growth, and success of the thrift store.
• Supervise, train, coach, and develop staff, participants, and volunteers.
• Create and manage employee and volunteer schedules.
• Oversee staffing needs, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee development.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven team culture.
• Ensure excellent customer service while promoting Worthwhile's mission.
• Assist with daily store operations, including sales floor coverage, donation processing, stocking, and cashier functions.
• Achieve sales goals and manage store expenses and payroll budgets.
• Complete payroll reporting and administrative responsibilities.
• Implement marketing initiatives, sales events, and promotional campaigns to increase sales, donations, and community engagement.
• Address operational challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Administer employee discipline and performance management processes as needed.
• Coordinate with vendors, utility providers, and property management.
• Maintain consistent operational and visual merchandising standards.
• Support the development of future store leaders and management team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Previous retail management or related leadership experience.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building abilities.
• Excellent organizational, administrative, and time management skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with:
• Google Workspace
• Microsoft Word and Excel
• Shopify
• Square POS Systems
• Workforce scheduling and payroll systems

• Work Requirements
• Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with additional hours as needed.
• Flexible schedule, including Saturdays, Memorial Day, and Labor Day.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds or more.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to travel to and support other store locations when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of retail management experience.
• Experience managing large teams, volunteers, or multi-department operations.
• Experience in thrift, resale, nonprofit retail, warehouse, or high-volume retail environments.
• Proven success in driving sales growth and operational performance.
• Experience with visual merchandising and community engagement initiatives.

Physical & Travel Requirements

• Ability to sit/stand for extended periods; lift up to 25 lbs
• Regular travel to local sessions, meetings, and partner sites (travel not exceeding 1 hour)
