Orthopedic Physician Assistant

Surgical and Clinical

Position Overview

Texas Joint Institute (TJI), one of North Texas’ premier orthopedic programs, is seeking Physician Assistants to join our growing surgical and clinical teams. Multiple opportunities are available across orthopedic traumatology, elective total joint replacement, and elective foot and ankle surgery.

These positions offer direct collaboration with orthopedic surgeons, hands-on surgical experience, and meaningful involvement in patient care from initial evaluation through recovery. Each role’s clinical focus, clinic and operating room schedule, and coverage responsibilities will align with the assigned physician and subspecialty team.

Available Practice Areas

Orthopedic Traumatology

• Orthopedic trauma and acute fracture care.
• Complex fracture reconstruction and post-traumatic complications.
• Pelvic and acetabular trauma and periprosthetic fractures.
• Opportunities within select practices for complex joint reconstruction, limb salvage, and musculoskeletal oncology.

Elective Total Joint Replacement

• Evaluation and management of patients with hip and knee arthritis.
• Primary and revision total joint replacement.
• Preoperative preparation, surgical assistance, and postoperative care.
• Patient education supporting recovery, mobility, and long-term outcomes.

Elective Foot and Ankle

• Evaluation and management of foot and ankle conditions.
• Surgical assistance with elective foot and ankle procedures.
• Preoperative planning and postoperative follow-up.
• Coordination of rehabilitation and ongoing patient care.

Primary Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients, obtain histories, perform physical examinations, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising surgeon.
• Order and review diagnostic studies appropriate to the assigned practice.
• Conduct preoperative evaluations and postoperative follow-up visits.
• Provide patient education regarding treatment options, surgical preparation, and recovery.
• Coordinate care with physicians, rehabilitation providers, and hospital teams.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Support continuity of care across clinic and surgical settings.

Operative Responsibilities

• Serve as first assist in orthopedic procedures within the assigned subspecialty.
• Assist with patient positioning, surgical exposure, wound closure, and other operative responsibilities appropriate to training and experience.
• Support perioperative planning and efficient operative workflow.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and operating room staff.

Qualifications

• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C).
• Current Texas PA license or eligibility to obtain licensure before starting.
• Orthopedic surgery experience preferred.
• Surgical first assist experience strongly preferred.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy surgical and clinical practice.
