Position Overview
The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is seeking a part-time or full-time Green School Works (GSW) Fellow to support the implementation and growth of the Green School Works program, which aims to inspire and support Massachusetts schools to become more efficient, comfortable, and emission-free through demonstration funding for innovative, replicable and cost-efficient projects. The Fellow will play an important role in supporting GSW grantees. Through this work, the Fellow will gain firsthand experience in grant administration and public-sector program implementation while helping schools access the resources needed to advance high-impact projects.
The Fellow will also support outreach, communications, and stakeholder engagement efforts to increase awareness of and participation in GSW as well as awareness of different clean energy and electrified heating and cooling solutions in schools. This may include developing outreach materials, supporting webinars and events, coordinating with school districts and partner organizations, tracking engagement activities, and helping identify opportunities to reach prospective participants. The Fellow may also assist with general program operations, data analysis, reporting, process improvements, and other activities that support the successful delivery of GSW. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to Massachusetts' clean energy and climate goals while supporting projects that improve school facilities, reduce emissions, and create healthier learning environments for students and staff.
The internship program at MassCEC includes various educational and networking opportunities, including:

- Other industry related events.
Job Duties
- Work with staff to maintain the operational flow of the Green School Works program, including supporting invoice reviews and payment requests, managing quality control of documentation, communicating program requirements to relevant stakeholders, and ensuring projects meet respective milestones.
- Support email inquiries about Green School Works, communicate responses to stakeholders including school districts, consultants, contractors, and partner organizations with guidance from MassCEC staff.
- Review detailed project, invoice, and deliverable information to facilitate grant reimbursement approval and payment.
- Assist in the development and implementation of outreach and engagement strategies that increase awareness of and participation in Green School Works programs, including supporting communications materials and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Work independently to analyze program and project data, identify trends, and develop effective communication tools (i.e., graphs, charts, tables).
- Draft memos, reports, presentations, and other materials to summarize program activities, project outcomes, and research findings.
- Assist in the development and review of program guidance, outreach materials, and other stakeholder-facing content.
- Support day-to-day program operations, including tracking program metrics, maintaining records, and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Education:
The candidate will be enrolled in or a recent graduate of an Associates, Bachelors, or Masters collegiate program. Relevant majors may include science, environmental studies, economics, communications, public policy, public health, place-based environmental focused or similarly focused major. Students from any major with relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities are encouraged to apply.

Timing & Location
MassCEC is looking for an intern who can start in January 2027 and continue at least through the end of June 2027 on a full or part time basis. Applicants should be available to work at least 25 hours per week up to 40 hours per week. The number of hours worked per week may vary over the course of the internship based on the applicant’s schedule and MassCEC’s workload. MassCEC is open to extending the internship on a part-time or full-time basis if there is mutual interest.
MassCEC requests candidates are able to be in office for a start date of January 11th 2027, and a final date of June 25th, 2027.
MassCEC staff work on a hybrid model: part time in our downtown Boston office and part time remote. We are open to considering a candidate that would like to work fully remotely.
Supervision
The fellow will work under the supervision of building decarbonization staff at MassCEC.
Salary
The fellow will earn $20 per hour and be eligible to work for up to 40 hours per week.
