Field Service Technician

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Field Service Technician based in United States.

This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling natural gas engines and compressors in the field and shop. You will support gas compression operations by performing preventive and corrective mechanical service and diagnosing equipment failures efficiently. The position combines hands-on mechanical work with customer service, documentation, inventory management, and emergency response. You will also contribute to compressor and engine rebuilds, new-unit installations, and start-up testing. The role requires strong independence, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to changing field conditions. This is a non-rotation position, and candidates must live within one hour of the designated service area in or around Carthage, Texas.

Accountabilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on natural gas compression units in the field.

  • Troubleshoot engine and compressor failures accurately and efficiently, identifying root causes and implementing appropriate solutions.

  • Conduct rebuilds and overhauls of compressors, engines, controls, and related gas compressor package equipment in the shop.

  • Respond to recurring equipment issues and emergency service needs as required.

  • Assist with the installation and setting of new compressor units and perform start-up and testing activities.

  • Complete mechanical and electrical assignments related to natural gas compressor systems and associated equipment.

  • Maintain accurate daily maintenance reports, expense reports, timesheets, and other required documentation.

  • Manage parts and tool inventory, ensuring equipment and supplies are properly stored, accessible, and available without unnecessary oversupply or shrinkage.

  • Provide professional customer service while completing assigned field work and ensure customer needs and service-quality expectations are addressed.

  • Follow safety procedures, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and management direction while taking ownership of assigned work.

Requirements:
  • Have a high school diploma or GED with 3–5+ years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of machines, tools, materials, methods, and equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of natural gas compression units.

  • Have experience with Murphy EICS, Centurion, and Altronic systems.

  • Have experience with Ariel, Gemini, Ajax, Caterpillar 3500, 379, 398, 399, and 3300 series engines and compressors, with Caterpillar 3500 experience preferred.

  • Hold a valid driver’s license and be able to work within the designated service area.

  • Be a motivated self-starter who can work independently and efficiently with limited supervision.

  • Be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and other technical documentation.

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document work clearly and communicate technical information effectively.

  • Demonstrate strong customer-service skills, including the ability to assess customer needs, meet service standards, and evaluate customer satisfaction.

  • Be able to follow instructions, manage commitments, complete assignments on time, and communicate proactively when an alternative plan is needed.

  • Be adaptable in changing work environments and able to manage competing priorities, delays, unexpected events, and emergency service situations.

  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including gathering information, evaluating results, identifying root causes, and developing effective solutions.

  • Have adequate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.

  • Be based in Carthage, Texas, or the surrounding area and live within one hour of the designated service area, as this is not a rotation position.
