ABOUT THE ROLE
The Maintenance Technician keeps Adept Life Sciences' production and facility equipment running safely, reliably, and in a state of cGMP compliance. Working under the direction of the Maintenance & Engineering Manager and senior maintenance personnel, this role performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, and supports the nutraceutical manufacturing and packaging equipment used to produce capsules, tablets, powders, and other dietary supplement products. The Maintenance Technician partners closely with Production, Quality, and Sanitation to minimize downtime, protect product quality, and keep accurate, audit-ready maintenance records in compliance with 21 CFR Part 111.
SCHEDULE: 6:00AM - 2:30PM M-F
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on production, packaging, and facility equipment according to the PM schedule and approved SOPs.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical systems on manufacturing equipment, including blenders, encapsulators, tablet presses, powder fillers, conveyors, and bottling, capping, labeling, and packaging lines.
• Repair and maintain gearboxes, motors, bearings, chains, belts, and pneumatic components.
• Assist with troubleshooting basic electrical systems, including motors, contactors, overloads, relays, limit switches, sensors, and control circuits.
• Support troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment and HMIs under supervision.
• Replace faulty components and verify proper operation after repair before returning equipment to Production.
• Support equipment changeovers and change-part installation as needed.
cGMP Compliance & Documentation
• Follow 21 CFR Part 111 cGMP requirements and company SOPs for all maintenance activities in production areas.
• Document completed work orders, PM records, and equipment logs accurately, completely, and in real time, following good documentation practices.
• Follow equipment status tagging and coordinate with Quality and Sanitation so equipment is cleaned and released before it returns to production after maintenance.
• Support calibration of instruments and scales, and equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) activities as directed.
• Follow change control procedures for any modification to production equipment, and support audit readiness of maintenance records and work areas.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
• Help identify recurring equipment issues and report findings to senior maintenance staff.
• Participate in equipment inspections, root cause investigations, and CAPA related to equipment failures or deviations.
• Support corrective and preventive measures that reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability (OEE).
• Help maintain an organized spare parts inventory and support 5S in the maintenance shop and work areas.
Facility & Utilities Support
• Assist with maintenance of facility systems and utilities, including compressed air, dust collection, HVAC, and water systems that support GMP production areas.
• Support general facility repairs and help keep production rooms, walls, floors, and fixtures in good, cleanable condition.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
• Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures properly and consistently.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas, and remove tools and parts from production areas after every job.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions or hazards.
Team Collaboration
• Work effectively with Production, Quality, and Sanitation personnel to minimize downtime and schedule maintenance around production.
• Communicate clearly about equipment status and repair timelines.
• Assist senior technicians and engineers during major repairs, installations, and upgrades.
• Participate in training to expand technical skills, and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Minimum 3 years experience maintaining equipment in a cGMP-regulated facility (nutraceutical, food, dairy, or pharmaceutical).
• Basic understanding of electrical prints and mechanical schematics.
• Working knowledge of AC/DC motors, industrial contactors and overloads, pneumatic systems, and basic PLC-controlled systems.
• Ability to use standard diagnostic tools.
• Understanding of, or willingness to learn, cGMP and good documentation practices.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to perform duties safely and effectively, with or without reasonable accommodation.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED)
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Experience with encapsulation, tableting, blending, or packaging equipment preferred.
• Basic welding or fabrication skills preferred.
• Experience using a CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work on elevated platforms, ladders, and in confined spaces.
• Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools, parts, and controls.
• Specific vision abilities required may include near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Primarily a manufacturing and production floor environment, with time in the maintenance shop.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, vibration, airborne powders and dust (including food allergens), and moderate to loud noise.
• Required to wear protective gear, i.e. hairnets, beard covers, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and cGMP attire, in production areas.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime when required.
