Title: Marine Repair Welder

Employment Type: Nonexempt / Hourly

Classification: Full Time

Position Summary:

Terral RiverService, Inc. is seeking a Marine Repair Welder to perform maintenance, repairs, welding, fabrication, and general labor on and around large marine vessels and barges. Work includes removing and installing rudders, propellers, shafts, and related components, along with structural repairs and work inside voids, engine rooms, and other onboard spaces. This position requires welding skills, mechanical ability, attention to detail, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety. Candidates must be flexible with work schedules and available to work weekends as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on vessels and barges, including structural steel repairs and component replacement.
  • Remove, repair, and install rudders, propellers, shafts, and related vessel components.
  • Perform welding and fabrication on vessel and barge structures, equipment, and metal components.
  • Work aboard and around vessels and barges, including inside voids, engine rooms, and other designated spaces.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to complete assigned repairs.
  • Measure, mark, cut, fit, and prepare metal components for welding and installation.
  • Set up and operate MIG, TIG, and stick welding equipment, as required.
  • Weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Inspect completed welds for quality, completeness, and defects, and make necessary repairs.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, and grinding equipment.
  • Assist with rigging, lifting, positioning, and securing heavy components using appropriate equipment and procedures.
  • Clean and prepare work surfaces by removing rust, scale, paint, and other contaminants.
  • Assist maintenance and repair crews with material handling, equipment removal and installation, and general labor.
  • Inspect tools and equipment and perform routine maintenance as required.
  • Follow company safety procedures, including applicable confined-space entry, hot-work, and equipment isolation requirements.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and maintain clean, orderly work areas.
  • Work with other crew members to complete repairs safely and on schedule.
  • Complete required documentation and recordkeeping related to assigned work.
  • Maintain flexibility with work schedules, including working weekends as needed to meet repair and operational demands.

Skills and Expertise:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a Welder, with a strong portfolio of past welding projects.
  • Welding certification is a plus.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of different welding techniques and materials.
  • Familiarity with welding safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to operate and maintain welding equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work in various positions and environments.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
