Job Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production equipment, facility systems, and related machinery in a food manufacturing environment. This role performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, equipment inspections, and facility maintenance while maintaining strong adherence to food safety, quality, sanitation, and workplace safety standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical and electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting, with preferred experience supporting food processing, packaging, or similar production equipment.


Key Responsibilities

· Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment, packaging machinery, conveyors, pumps, motors, compressors, and facility systems.

· Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize downtime and support production schedules.

· Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and work closely with production, sanitation, quality, and management teams to resolve maintenance-related issues.

· Maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, company standards, and established preventive maintenance schedules.

· Support equipment changeovers, installations, adjustments, and start-ups to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.

· Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices, food safety programs, sanitation procedures, allergen controls, and quality standards while performing maintenance activities.

· Ensure repairs and maintenance work do not create food safety, product quality, or contamination risks.

· Use proper lockout/tagout procedures and follow all OSHA, company safety, and facility-specific safety requirements.

· Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection documentation, and parts usage through the company’s maintenance tracking system or logs.

· Assist with maintaining inventory of tools, replacement parts, supplies, and maintenance materials.

· Perform basic building and facility maintenance, including lighting, plumbing, doors, dock equipment, and general repairs as needed.

· Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, increase efficiency, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

· Communicate equipment concerns, safety hazards, and repair recommendations to supervisors in a timely and professional manner.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required; technical school, trade certification, or related maintenance training preferred.

· Minimum of 2–3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment; food manufacturing, food processing, or packaging experience strongly preferred.

· Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

· Ability to troubleshoot motors, sensors, conveyors, pumps, valves, gearboxes, and production equipment.

· Basic understanding of PLCs, variable frequency drives, electrical controls, and reading schematics or blueprints preferred.

· Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, SQF, USDA/FDA, allergen control, sanitation, and food safety requirements preferred.

· Experience with computerized maintenance management systems or maintenance work order documentation preferred.

· Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, measuring devices, and other maintenance equipment safely and effectively.

· Strong problem-solving, communication, organization, and time-management skills.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.

· Must be dependable, safety-minded, detail-oriented, and able to respond with urgency to equipment and production needs.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, reach, and work in and around production equipment for extended periods.

· Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, or more with assistance as required.

· Ability to work in a food manufacturing environment that may include varying temperatures, noise, wet or slippery surfaces, and exposure to cleaning chemicals or production materials.

· Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and follow all safety, sanitation, and food safety procedures.

· May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, or off-shift hours based on production and maintenance needs.
