FVRLibraries offers a working environment where we believe our work makes a difference in the lives of others every day. We are seeking an experienced, customer and team-oriented Branch Manager to provide leadership at the Goldendale Community Library in a rural community in Goldendale, WA.

Position Summary

The Branch Manager will provide leadership for and manage staff and operations in the small and mid-range sized branches and may also be responsible for multiple branches or service outlets. The position will provide a full range of patron assistance; support, plan and implement programs; and oversee the collections of the branch. The position will represent the branch and the library district in the assigned communities, building and sustaining positive community relationships.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee all branch and service outlet operations including staff and volunteers, and circulation and public services.
  • Lead operational and budget planning and monitor expenditure of staffing and operating costs of the branch and outlets; participate in strategic planning for the district.
  • Supervise assigned staff and provide direction to all assigned staff; train, mentor, evaluate and provide performance feedback and address performance problems; interview and hire staff members; establish and model customer service expectations for staff and ensure expectations are met.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with community leaders, service partners, and other community members; serve as primary liaison to the Friends of the Library group(s); work with them to align their goals with those of the library.
  • Plan, direct, and conduct community outreach activities.
  • Respond to patron problems and community concerns, seeking to resolve them and provide positive outcomes.
  • Oversee and ensure safety of library staff and patrons; coordinate and collaborate with facilities and information technology departments to keep the buildings, vehicles, and equipment in good working order.
  • Review and maintain the collection to ensure it meets the needs of patrons; coordinate local collection management in the context of a dynamic and centrally developed district collection.
  • Independently and in coordination with other branch staff members plan, coordinate and implement programming for all ages of patrons.
  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory assistance to patrons; refer questions as needed.
  • Provide instructions to patrons regarding library catalog searching, computer use, technology and use of personal information devices; troubleshoot problems as necessary.
  • Responsible for communication and collaboration of a branch(es); accountable for the results of such effort; lead and attend meetings and participate in committees and organizations that further the library’s mission and goals.
  • Keep informed of current library and management practices by attending workshops and educational programs and reading specialized literature.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Duties are considered non-essential and include the following:

  • Participate in various task forces for library and community projects or initiatives.
  • Compile statistics and prepare regular and special reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

The Goldendale Community Library is open six days a week opening at 10:00 AM and including some evening hours. The branch manager will create a predictable, recurring schedule in coordination with leadership and staff to ensure coverage during branch operating hours. Branch Managers are expected to flex their schedules based on staffing, programming and outreach needs.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program or ability to obtain a Washington State certification upon hire.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience, with customer service experience.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of supervisory experience, with experience managing people and/or projects.

Compensation & Benefits

This position earns between $73,975.59 and $110,963.38 per year and may be eligible for a 5% pay premium for additional language skills. To be eligible for the additional pay employees must pass a test demonstrating verbal and written fluency in languages commonly used in our communities. Examples may include, but are not limited to, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin/Cantonese and American Sign Language.

We have an excellent benefit package. FVRLibraries covers 90-95% of full-time employees’ health insurance premium cost and 90-100% of dental insurance premium costs. In addition we provide employees with Life Insurance, AD&D and Long Term Disability Insurance at no cost to the employee. Employees have the ability to enroll in additional, voluntary life insurance, income protection plans, flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts.

Our employees enjoy 13 paid holidays throughout the year. Full time employees accrue 8 hours of sick leave per month. The initial vacation leave accrual is 11 hours per month; this increases over time based on years of employment. We also offer other types of paid time off for situations such as jury duty, bereavement leave, inclement weather and more.
