Job Description
Summary: Operating specialized sanitation vehicles, the Heavy-Duty Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient collection and transport of solid waste and recyclables. May transport materials and/or equipment and performs related duties, as required, consistent with municipal DPW activities. Work is performed under general supervision, with assignments reviewed for completeness, adherence to safety standards, and compliance with Township policies and proceduresDuties: Safely operate and maneuver packer and other heavy-duty trucks through residential and commercial routes. • Follow established collection routes, schedules, and traffic regulations. • Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after operation and report any mechanical defects or maintenance needs. • Collect, load, and transport garbage, recyclables, and bulk materials from designated areas. • Ensure proper sorting and handling of different types of waste materials. • Maintain cleanliness of vehicle and assigned work areas. • Adhere to all federal, state, and local motor vehicle and safety regulations. • Follow all Township and departmental safety protocols regarding waste handling and disposal. • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. • Interact courteously and professionally with residents, business owners, and coworkers. • Respond appropriately to inquiries or concerns regarding waste collection or service disruptions. • Maintain accurate incident reports. • Promptly report equipment malfunctions, route issues, or safety concerns to a supervisor. • Work collaboratively with collection crews and other DPW personnel to ensure efficient operations. • Be available for emergency response and storm clearance duties, including overtime as needed. • Utilizes safety equipment and follows safety procedures to ensure protection of personnel, equipment, and the general public during maintenance operations. When not engaged in driving a truck or other vehicles, may perform other work such as maintenance and repair work.Requirements: High School graduate or equivalent. One (1) year experience operating heavy-duty or sanitation vehicles preferred. Must be able to lift heavy loads of at least seventy-five (75) pounds and must be able to work in various kinds of weather. Must have a valid New Jersey Driver's License and must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with Air Brake Endorsement. Position requires off hours availability to work nights and weekends as situations warrant.Rate: $20.38 - $33.10 per hour. Part-time; temporary (this is a temporary position with the potential to become permanent); not to exceed twenty-eight (28) hours per week. Compensation commensurate with experience.Closing Date: This job posting will remain open until filled; the Township reserves the right to offer the position at any time during the recruitment process.
